Durgin Paint Forge Sculpt Up A Wonderful Forest Troll
April 6, 2020 by brennon
I have said it before but Durgin Paint Forge really do blow my socks off every time I see what they have been up to. This time around they got me once again as they showed off their new Forest Troll which will be a new addition to their upcoming Elf range.
This new model has been created to match their Elves (which you'll see below) but also draw on classic Nordic themes. As well as drawing on the same inspiration as their Elves and looking to far-flung cultures there is also a real sense that this creature could have wandered out of a cave in Scandinavia somewhere.
The amount of detail wrought into the design across the whole of the miniature is phenomenal and I love all the bits of nature which have grown out of his stony back. You get the sense that he might have kept himself away from the world in a cave and become one with the very earth but something has woken him from his slumber.
As you can see, this Forest Troll is a perfect match to the rest of the Elf range and looks like a really good fit for it. Even though Durgin Paint Forge have been stepping away from typical Elven archetypes and introducing some new themes into the mix, it's good to see a classic fae Troll pop up.
I also urge you to go and check out more of what they've crafted HERE.
I cannot wait to see what people do when it comes to painting this particular addition to their range.

He’s got a big nose!
I hadn’t heard of Durgin Paint Forge but taking a look at the website they are some talented people. The Venoraptor they have sneak peaked is great ?
Loving the new troll, and this new elven range in general. Having just received some miniatures from their last Kickstarter, I will say the quality of the resin casts is the best I’ve ever seen. Superb work from a team who care deeply about their work.
Wow. Those are some striking minis.
That looks great! Really like how the elves and the troll have got such a nature vibe. It’s also nice to see a break from the norm of seeing angry and bloodthirsty trolls too! Not saying that he isn’t either of those things but I just get the feeling that time passes much slower for him and our actions seem like the maddening buzzing of insects around him. Kind of Entish I guess or that rock giant from never ending story.
Are these all for an up coming Kickstarter? Will have to go and check the site out!
A fabulous looking troll never seen a tail on one before.
That is a lovely miniature.
I can see that this Troll is very heavily indebted to the artwork of Paul Bonner and the work he’s done for Trudvang RPG.
The Trudvang Legends CMON Kickstarter that ran last year is awash with more of this Paul Bonner Nordic trolls, goblins etc – well worth taking a look at the lovely miniatures there https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cmon/trudvang-legends
Truly lovely stuff In that Kickstarter. Paul Bonner has some cracking talent, thanks for putting the link up
I think that’s mostly a wonderful figure but… I can’t not see the nose as a comedic duck’s bill. Which rather spoils the impact for me.
