Duncan Rhodes Launches His Painting Academy On YouTube
March 4, 2020 by brennon
Duncan "Two Thin Coats" Rhodes left Games Workshop not too long ago and now he's back with his own YouTube Channel where he'll be showing off his easy-to-follow painting guides on plenty of awesome miniatures.
As well as covering a range of Games Workshop models he will also be diving in and showing off how to paint miniatures from different companies. He has previously shown a love for the likes of Bolt Action from Warlord Games and A Song Of Ice & Fire by CMON on social media so I'd expect to see tutorials popping up on those models too!
I watched the first of his videos from YouTube, the Order Of Our Martyred Lady Battle Sister tutorial, and it was a good watch. There are plenty of techniques and advice in there and he goes through some of the extra steps in a lot of detail to make sure you'd be able to follow them yourself.
Painting Academy
As well as producing content free via YouTube, Rhodes has also been talking about his own Painting Academy website where people can pay a small subscription fee each month to get their hands on a much wider selection of videos covering full tutorials and more.
The website is still in the process of being built but if the YouTube channel and the quality of his videos are anything to go by, they should be worth the money for budding painters who want to learn some more techniques.
I am looking forward to seeing him tackle different miniature ranges with a selection of paints from alternative companies. He has used Citadel paint so far on his first tutorial but I'd imagine he will branch out into The Army Painter, Vallejo and more.
Give the video a watch and let us know what you think!

Wow. Closing in on 30k subscribers in under a week. Folks love a Duncan!
I’ll reserve judgement until we have details on the website and what exactly will be pay-gated. But I’m intrigued.
Looks like it’ll be a similar setup to Tabletop Tactics – some content on Youtube but the majority available to Subscribers, but the content will be structurally the same between the two types of video
I don’t think we should be trying to paint like Duncan. For we dare not touch the sun
I disagree. we should all aspire to better ourselves. there is no fault in trying. that is the only way to learn.
This is the way.
Yay Duncan going Indy and love their videos over the year’s long many they continue.
Glad to see Duncan recommending other painting products.
According to his Twitter the man never tried a wet palette until he left GW. I found that incredible.
I tried wet pallets about 6 years ago and realised I had no need for one
Sure, and people should use what works for them – but he’s a professional painter and he has never even tried one. Just seemed odd.
