Dropzone Commander Gets Scaled Up for Collector’s Edition Minis!
May 29, 2014 by dracs
There can be no doubt that Dropzone Commander has some of the best vehicular based sculpts out there, and plenty of people have longed for them to come in a larger scale. Now those prayers are answered as Hawk release the first of their Collector's Editions.
The Ares Battle Walker of the Post-Human Republic has been the first to get scaled up to 30mm, although Hawk Wargames say this goes way beyond a simple scale-up.
There have been some modifications for the larger scale, including more details and fully posable legs and toes. The model itself is reportedly made from high quality tough resin, meaning that it could easily be used for skirmish level gaming, as well as a simple display piece.
The detail of this model is absolutely astounding, but while it is a collector's piece I can't help but find myself fascinated with the idea of Dropzone Commander being scaled up for 30mm skirmish games. What sort of changes to the traditional Dropzone Commander rules would there have to be to make such a game work?
Is your Dropzone Commander force going to grow in scale?

That’s awesome!
I won’t waste server space waxing about how epic this miniature looks. I will, however, say this. 30mm miniatures are one thing … building a 30mm city to play them on will be something else. Picture the epic table just completed by @warzan and @lloyd , times 27. Three times as long, three times as wide, and three times as TALL. A daunting challenge, but whoever does it first will doubtlessly go down in DZC (and gaming) history as a true bad a$$ of tabletop gaming. Then again, after the 12-foot starship the DZC team rolled out at Salute 2014… Read more »
Sooo shiny. My missus would kill me lol.
Either that, or you could use it with some Robocop minis if you have them. 🙂
DROP YOUR WEAPON. YOU HAVE FIFTEEN SECONDS TO COMPLY …
I think that would kick the original ones BUTT. Lol
Right? Especially since in DZC, isn’t this thing like 20 feet tall and armed with all kinds of sci-fi tech? For all its coolness, the ED-209 was pretty much armed with current-tech chain guns and rockets, at least in the Paul Verhoven film.
Plus it looks cooler. That gives a +1 on any die roll anyway. 😀

This does look super cool. I could see it as a knight in a game of 40K.
What i’d really like to see if they keep doing this would be a Wolverine or a Bear with the internals and crew, that’d be sweet.
i like this! i need another game project like i need another hole in my head but it wolud look so good..
the game, I mean..
That’s a sexy model, with a great looking arse.
… as especially highlighted in the third and fifth photo. Strange, we don’t get those camera angles with Justin’s Infinity miniatures for some reason … 😐
This has a degree of predatory elegance and visual interest that I find very appealing.
Very nice! I hope they’ll be doing a lot more in this scale.
The only drawback I see is that they are still in Hawk Wargames’price range. This is one of of the least affordable miniature range on the market whatever the scale is…
I tend to agree, their infantry is certainly very expensive coming in at nearly 2 to 3 times the price of other 10mm manufacturers
Regardless of price. That is one sexy mother of a mech.
