Dropfleet Commander’s Resistance Get Hefty New Cruisers
November 18, 2020 by brennon
TTCombat is back teasing more goodness for the weekend with a look at Dropfleet Commander this time around. In their latest blog post, we got a look at a new modular Cruiser for use by The Resistance.
Aldrin Colony Ship // Dropfleet Commander
The frame from which these different Cruisers have been built were dug out of storage somewhere in the back end of beyond and now put to use by The Resistance against those who stand in their way. For example, the Aldrin Colony Ship (above) here was used (as you might imagine) to transport people from one planet to another but now it has been turned into a way to drop all manner of craft onto the planet surface below.
If you want something with a little more heft to it then you also have the Armstrong Destroyer.

This massive craft was once used at the vanguard of an exploratory fleet and would use its lasers to break apart asteroids and such that sat in the way of other ships. Now it turns its powerful lasers towards other ships and uses it to carve them up instead!
We then finish with the Collins Support Carrier.

Here we have a key option for those who need to repair and refuel as they are making expeditions through deep space or in the midst of a battle. If you've got a handful of old fighter craft that need support during engagements then this might be a neat option to sit at the back of your fleet keeping everything going.
Could you be tempted to add these into your Resistance Fleet this weekend?

The dome on the Aldrin Colony Ship reminds me of the movie Silent Running… should give that a rewatch…
It does! And I’m not ashamed to admit that I cried a little when watching the film when one of the robots got smashed by an asteroid.
A strange film, but one one of my favs
Does a zero-g carrier need a flight deck? They’re lovely models but that seems an odd design decision to me.
They’ll always need something to crash into
Depends.
I could see some use for A very large flat surface for dozens of fighters to be able to land on all at once, one wave. In a battle situation where time is of the essence it could be the best tactical choice.
Also catapults easily useful for quick energy saving launch assists, as BSG has shown us. So again, its vaguely plausible.
They’re very aesthetic, and once you get to it, the whole idea of space warfare is impractical and unrealistic, so why not embrace it?
Not really a fan of any of the non UCM ships in Dropfleet.
The UCM are just so freaking awesome to look at that all the other faction ships just look kind of like shit in comparison.
Nice they remain me of repurposed cruise ship’s salvaged from civilian fleets.
Those are some good looking ships.
good looking ships, but as a faction ‘the resistance’ is kind of add odds with the size of the armies in Dropfleet/Dropzone commander to be honest.
OTOH … the equivalent faction in a galaxy far far away also had more gear than a bunch of rebels could possibly afford.
The rebels were always funded by anti-imperial factions within the Empire, taliban were also very well equipped thanks to US funding.
Rebels do have Alderaan and probably a few really wealthy planets, but the most important feature is that the universe is ‘stable’.
The with ‘resistance’ in Dropfleet is based on planets that were overrun by a superior alien race.
No amount of funding is going to fix that kind of setback, so unless that part of the background is ignored this feels like a rather desperate attempt at adding them into dropfleet.
people wanted them in the game since the start, so yeah.
I like these ships.
I miss Dave updating us on the new stuff when it comes out.
I do love the ships, and I can see them as part of the universe, but I still don’t much like the idea of ‘Resistance’ fleets, so would try to find an alternative use for them.
