Dropfleet Commander Gets New Two Player Starter Set!
October 4, 2022 by brennon
It seems like everyone and their mums are getting a new starter set right now! TTCombat has dived into the fray with a new and updated Two-Player Starter Set for Dropfleet Commander, allowing you to head into space for some epic battles!
Dropfleet Commander Two-Player Starter Set 2022 // TTCombat
We start with the new Dropfleet Commander Two-Player Starter Set for 2022. This should give you all the things that you need to get started with the game. Included within, you'll find two Starter Fleets. You have one for the UCM and another for the Scourge (goodies versus baddies!). There are two resin Cruisers, a plastic Cruiser and four Frigates for each of the fleets giving you plenty of fun miniatures to tinker with.
You will also get the sixty-four-page Rulebook updated for the 1.5 Edition rules and they haven't slacked on the detail. It contains all the things you need for building fleets and playing scenarios. You'll also find a bunch of scenery pieces, tokens, a 3x4 gaming surface, dice and more to make sure that you're sorted.
If you already have a bunch of miniatures for Dropfleet Commander then maybe snap up the new Rulebook separately.
Dropfleet Commander Rulebook 2022 // TTCombat
The focus of Dropfleet Commander is on clashes between mighty Cruisers and their escorts but there is more time given over to taking control of objectives and controlling locations on the tabletop so that your faction of choice can begin their attacks on the planet below. Andy Chambers, David J Lewis, Scott Burns and Lewis Clarke have kept their hand on the tiller when it comes to bringing this space-based ship combat game back to the tabletop.
Adding the twist of low orbit combat and deploying forces planetside means that Dropfleet Commander stands out from other games of a similar ilk. Plus, it's always fun to have another game that can be used to link together grand campaigns. Slot this one in nicely alongside Dropzone Commander for an epic weekend worth of wargaming.
New Dropfleet Commander Cruisers
As well as a new Starter Set, the team at TTCombat have announced four new sets of Cruisers for each of the factions in Dropfleet Commander.
UCM Titania Cruisers // Dropfleet Commander
Scourge Solar Cruisers // Dropfleet Commander
PHR Prototype Cruisers // Dropfleet Commander
Shaltari Aaru Cruisers // Dropfleet Commander
Resistance Kalium Cruisers // Dropfleet Commander
All of these are new resin miniatures and would give you a bunch of ways to improve and update your fleets for the different factions in-game. Each has its own bonuses and minuses and you'll need to work out the best way to include them alongside your force. If you'd like to find out more about each of them, click on the links below to get a breakdown from the folks at TTCombat.
I think my favourite has to be the PHR Prototype Cruisers. I have always liked their sleek look and designs and how they feel like humanity+ (I guess that's quite on brand for them). It's hard not to like the UCM though with their very Halo-esque designs.
Are you going to be picking up this new Starter Set or some of these new miniatures?

Those are really nice.
The redesign or variant cruisers better are nice. That they are in resin is to be expected but nonetheless an issue as TTCs resin ships have been less than ideal quality at times. As a starter set though is is good (effectively the same as the last with a few cosmetic changes).
Dropfleet is a game I would like to play more but making most scenarios focused on landing forces and contesting objectives planetside stifles the game. What was innovative at the start limits the game. A shame they did not use the new rulebook to branch out a bit.
Bloody shame about the qulity. Hawk resin actually convinced me to work more with resin as the quality was astounding. It such a shame it took such a nose-dive.
I haven’t played the game enough for it to get stale, nor to add to my fleets right now, but it’ll have a place in my collection none-the-less.
Okay I’ll slightly rephrase that. The resin might be okay, but the way they have cast certain components means it can sometimes be really difficult to clean up and assemble the ships without them getting damaged. The fit of pieces is not always good, though that seems to have improved. It makes me reluctant to buy them as it’s hit and miss what turns up.
Nice ship’s Love the Resistance Cruisers they look like giant guns.
Man, those are such cool ships!
Had a starter set on back order for a while so looking forward for this.
The new resin ships are interesting and a nice addition to the starter set, not sure I’m keen on the UMC cruisers though I like the rest. The way TT Combat casts resin sometimes they can be a pain to clean-up sprue gates, hopefully that’s improved.
The Cruisers look nice, and this set is already preordered. My brother and I will be splitting it. I will be taking the Scourge and he will be playing the UCM.
