Dragon Forge Bases from an Ancient Lands
February 23, 2012 by brennon
Dragon Forge Design have released some new scenic bases for your larger figures. Check out the new selection of 120mm bases below...
The bases look pretty detailed with nice intricate detail that brings out a model but doesn't swamp it and take away from the actual figure. The fact that they are flat as well means that posing your figures shouldn't be a problem. The real question now is just what to put on them?
What do you think?
Damn that aztec calendar base is fab. It’s kinda the wrong shape for WHFB, but would make a great centre piece or terrain piece. Will have to get one. If the new banebeast ends up looking like it’s from the land of lustria, this base would be great for it. Maybe could put the round base on a big square monster base???
You could certainly use it as a raised dais on which the model is standing, then build up the rest of the base around it to make it even more scenic. Would look superb on a large monster jungle base surrounded by carnivorous fauna.

Sweet – I’ve got some man-eating plants from the imp guard heavy weapons spruces…
Warmahordes measurements here – the Colossals and Battle Engines will look great on these. The ‘Lost Empires’ base with its slightly sci-fi hex grid will work wonderfully with Retribution stuff, the ruins base will work with pretty much anything and the Aztec base is just begging to be painted with an eerie green glow behind metal – perfect for Cryx and Circle.
The Aztec base screams “Cthulhu diorama” to me… Or even “75mm/54mm figure”… But I’m a painter at heart !

Those are some well sculpted bases.
hmm I may have to get one of those for my retribution colossal when it comes out (and when I can afford something that big).
Basework on that that size base is actually rather difficult for me. It’s closer to a small piece of terrain that has to leave room for feet -and I SUCK at making terrain.
Wow, love that mayan base. It’s just what I need for the Lizardman diorama I never knew I needed to make until just now.
I like them all. The top one with the sectioned pillar is a great idea. As for the Aztec/Mayan base. I think it’s to good to place a model on it. I’d rather have it on a wall section beside the model. Paint it up all nice and weather it and add vines and all. It can really look great!
Hi Guys, thanks for the comments about my products. One of my customers point out the posts here so I came and joined up to say hello and see if anyone has any questions.
Thanks much,
Jeff Wilhelm
Aloha Jeff – thanks for joining. Some more aztec/mayan themed pieces would be great. Or even whfb movement trays with a jungle/templte vibe?
