Summon A Deathrattle Army For Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
April 1, 2025 by brennon
Games Workshop are soothing the spirits of Soulblight Gravelord players with the new Deathrattle Army Set, which introduces all of the new miniatures for Warhammer Age Of Sigmar's Mortal Realms.
Deathrattle Army Set // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
This set introduces you to the skeletal hosts of the Barrow Kingdoms. Inside the Army Set, you get twenty-six new miniatures, the Battletome and a set of Warscroll cards. Leading the way is the fearsome Wight King, who can also be built as a Wight Lord.
Wight King // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
An impressive new miniature and a good update for the Wights of Warhammer Age Of Sigmar. I really like the miniature design and it's neat to see the echoes of past human kingdoms in the figure's arms and armour. It gives a new history to The Mortal Realms, which is much needed.
This theme continues with the mounted miniatures for the Barrow Knights.

You get five of these in the set which can ride into battle alongside their Wight Lord/King. The bat wings return on some of the miniatures but you could easily clip those off if you wanted to avoid that call back to Warhammer from The World That Was.
Rounding things off for the set are two sets of the Barrow Guard, which replace the old Grave Guard of the Soulblight Gravelords and Vampire Counts. You can build twenty of them with a variety of weapons.

All of this gives you the elite core of your Deathrattle-themed army. You can use these alongside the upcoming Spearhead to form quite an impressive army. I have been a big fan of the Soulblight Gravelords since diving into the Cado Ezechiar novels, and I am quite tempted to snap up a vampire-led army of the undead with a firm skeleton theme.
Last but not least, we have the Battletome Soulblight Gravelords, which features a limited edition cover.

The Battletome comes alongside a set of fifty-five Warscroll Cards covering your units, faction rules, Regiments and Armies Of Renown, including the Tomb Host Spearhead. This is available whilst stocks last as part of the Army Set and in the Gamer's Edition of the Battletome.
You can get this Army Set and access the rules and miniatures for the Soulblight Gravelords first before the full release of the range in a couple of weeks.
Are you going to be picking up this Army Set?

It’s like a wee baby’s rattle … but spookier. ☠️🩻
Ze bats! Ze batsssss! I like em! 🦇💀🦇
I know GW and pricing have been mentioned before, but $230 for 26 guys, it’s a touch steep guv.
15% off from your local, which helps. I’ll actually probably get these.
‘OW MUCH?!
Lovely pieces of art. BUT…. effing awful to paint, I imagine. Going back to Ben’s point about the pain of painting extraneous detail and gubbins on models, I feel GW can dial it up to eleven when they are in the mood, and they certainly have with these. A couple of personal bete noirs are 1) floaty rags and smoke – very brittle and likely to break with handling, and 2) negative space – mean you have to get in there and paint the inside of the fething model, which is often tricky to access, and makes damaging the model likely when you handle it (I refer back to point 1).
So while I admire the artistry in their creation, no way would I buy these as I’d hate painting them.
