Dad’s Army Remake Cast List Announced; Don’t Panic!
October 9, 2014 by brennon
The full main cast for the Dad's Army remake has been announced and it's quite the star studded British line-up with some neat choices for a few of the main roles. The BBC were kind enough to do some side-by-sides so see what you think...
As you can see above the role of Captain Mainwaring will go to Toby Jones who is an awesome comic actor and Bill Nighy steps into the boots of Wilson. I think he has just the right attitude for it. Blake Harrison of Inbetweeners fame will also join the team as Pike! Here's the full run down...
"Taking on the role of Captain Mainwaring will be Toby Jones (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) alongside Bill Nighy (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) as his right-hand man Wilson. Also joining them will be Tom Courtnay (Quartet) as Corporal Jones, Michael Gambon (Harry Potter) as Godfrey, Danny Mays (Frankenstein) as Walker, Bill Paterson (The Killing Fields) as Fraser and Blake Harrison (The Inbetweeners) as the young and naive Pike. Also joining the cast is Sarah Lancashire (Coronation Street), Alison Steadman (Life is Sweet), Mark Gatiss (The League of Gentlemen) and Annete Crosbie (One Foot in the Grave) as well as Catherine Zeta-Jones (Chicago) as journalist Rose Winters."
...and for a bit of an idea about the story they also provided a synopsis.
"Set in 1944 as the Second World War reaches its climax, the Allies are poised to invade France and finally defeat the German army. But in Walmington-on-Sea morale amongst the Home Guard, led by Captain Mainwaring, is low. So their new mission, to patrol the Dover army base, is a great chance to revive spirits and reputation – until glamorous journalist Rose Winters arrives to write about their exploits. MI5 then discover a radio signal sent direct to Berlin from Walmington-on-Sea, sparking rumours of a spy and – with the outcome of the war suddenly at stake – it falls to the veteran servicemen to step up."
So, are you looking forward to the remake?
hahaha interesting
Mmmm. I cant deny the new cast are all excellent at what they do, but can they measure up to the original cast?
Nothing measures up to the original cast.
And they don’t like it up them
such an enormously tough act to follow…but the casting so far is top notch.
Always difficult remastering a classic. The casting seems to be appropriate, just have to sure the story fits what has gone before and needs to be in the same vain, not go in make believe.
A fan of the classic, will I watch a remastering, most likely.
i love dad’s army but i am rather unsure about a remake. the original as still great to this day. and don;t tell them you name pike!
I don’t know what Blake Harrison is like as an actor, but it looks like they got anyone to play Pike’s part. My sister’s fiance looks more like Pike than he does, (he really does in that photo) lol! From reading the synopsis it sounds like Rose the journalist is the spy then, or will be the suspect who turns out not to be the spy after all. Hopefully the finished film’s plot won’t be as easy this to figure out as the synopsis is. 😛 I’m still not sold on the idea of a remake of a classic series… Read more »
Oooo dads army friends
Oooo home guard friends
Friendsssss
May be worth watching just have to wait and see.
Can’t be any worse than the new Ghostbusters is going to be…
Dad’s Army is one of my all time favourite shows. I am really not looking forward to how this will go, though I think the cast, for the most part, is really well suited.
Hoping they do a BBC America release. Would be nice if they did a run up with the original. It was a classic and we’ll done, don’t always go hand in hand, sitcom with very memorable characters.
Announcing a cast list?
What happened to the principle of, “Don’t tell them your name Pike!”
Apprehensive.
These things rarely go well.
The originals are too well known and too well loved.
British sitcoms rarely translate well to full length movies but the synopsis sounds okay
Let’s hope for the best and a jolly whizzer wheeze in Walmington-on-Sea
Well they got some good actors, now I’m just suspicious about the writers and director
Johnny English and Mr. Bean does not bode well, especially when they use terms like “universal appeal”
Then again I have never seen Dad’s army so I will be watching this without any expectations.
