Cubicle 7 Reveal Doomseeker Archetype For Age Of Sigmar RPG
March 26, 2019 by brennon
Embracing something of the Slayer from The World That Was, Cubicle 7 talk about another of the archetypes that will be available to players in the Age Of Sigmar Roleplaying Game, the Doomseeker.
Doomseekers work in Age Of Sigmar much as they did in the Old World, Duardin who have broken oaths or sworn themselves to a life of brutal hardship for some misdeed in their previous life. No-one truly knows what the reason behind a Doomseeker choosing this life is since it is a closely guarded secret.
The only time where their old life may come to the fore is in the day-to-day dealings of you and your group. Perhaps the Doomseeker might (as the article suggests) haggle like a skilled merchant or play an instrument like a talented musician. Either way, whilst those old skills are still fresh in their mind, the Doomeseeker's quest is to find a righteous and worthy fate at the hands of ever-larger foes.
A Path Of Atonement
These Doomseekers are now bent on destruction and death, throwing themselves with reckless abandon into the fiercest of fights in hopes of atoning for their past. As a story hook, this is already an enticing one as you balance the survival of your comrades against your own goal.
Of course, you've also got the links to your past to deal with and it could provide you with interesting stories to tell. Perhaps the group will find their way to a Duardin Fyreslayer stronghold and encounter those from the Doomseekers past?
I have always been fascinated with Slayers and Doomseekers since Gotrek & Felix (and of course my own love of Dwarves in general) and I think it would be great to see what nuanced stories you could tell about these wild berserkers.
Would you play a Doomseeker?

Still have my old Slayers of Karak Kadrin army knocking around. Good to see they still have a place.
Aye, it is cool…the more previews they do for this the more I’m interested in it as an RPG to delve into.
Hopefully those that pick Doomseaker for their character will do so because they actually want to roleplay one and not because they just want to go all murder hobo on everything the PCs meet.
Ooh slayers are back did they leave then in AoS.
These worked great in fiction with Gotrek because of the cool plot device that meant he kept winning. In an RPG, assuming the player is actually role playing the character properly and not just taking their stats, surely they would die pretty quickly? Normally in an RPG the characters avoid the big bad until they have levelled up, but a slayer would just go for it.
Well, I think that comes down to role-playing as well. If you’re making a Doomseeker you, of course, look to their old life but they are also well-trained killers living in the Mortal Realms which is full of danger, especially for the Fyreslayers. So, with that in mind, I think you’ll still have Doomseekers rushing into combat but also thinking of their kin. For example, if I was playing one I’d consider it a further stain on my honour if I let my companions die for my mistakes as I run blindly into the fighting. Now, when it came to… Read more »
Doom seeker ?
Kind of sounds boring, doesn’t it ?
A bit depressing as well.
Troll slayer (or Giant slayer or Daemon slayer) OTOH … now that is fun on a bun.
I think Doomseeker still works pretty well. I’m fairly sure it was used as a term for Slayers in the Old World too although of course you also had the other names too.
It’s easier as a catch-all term at the very least.
