Crush The Rebellion With X-Wing’s New Big Imperial Raider
December 19, 2014 by brennon
Fantasy Flight Games have shown off another big miniature for their X-Wing game. This time the massive ship moving into orbit is the Imperial Raider. Rebels beware...
It's very impressive and looks imposing on the tabletop I'm sure. When you see it next to a TIE Advanced (see below) you'll see what I mean. The Raider is designed for Cinematic and Epic level play. More about it...
"Kuat Drive Yards began manufacturing the Raider-class corvette in 6BBY as a dedicated anti-fighter vessel after it was successfully pitched by Lira Wessex, the designer of the Imperial-class Star Destroyer. She recognized that the Imperial Navy lacked a small, modern craft to reinforce the TIE fighter squadrons deployed by Star Destroyers, and she designed the Raider-class corvette as a durable, 150m vessel that featured multiple hardpoints and would excel at suppressing Rebel fighter attacks."
As well as the Raider you also get a new TIE Advanced with some new cards allowing you to utilise it to suppress Rebel attacks with a bit more ease. I can see some awesome games coming to light when this and the big Rebel ships clash surrounded by a swarm of fighters.
Pretty sure Fantasy Flight Games have just won once again with this one.
What do you think of it?

Ah, an Imperial ship on par with the Blockade Runner. Very nice 😀
It’s like mix of Star Destroyer (but not as big) and TIE Interceptor (those wings).
I was going to say something similar, but @mecha82 beat me to it. 🙂 Two of my favorite Star Wars designs, the Imperial-class Star Destroyer and the TIE Interceptor, merged into one new “Bada$$-class” starship.
With that third wing set under the ventral surface, I’m also reminded of . . . TIE Defender a little?
Ok, im sold on this game now. Getting the starter box tomorrow! 🙂
As FFG has a license agreement, does that mean that this might show up in actual SW movies?
I wouldn’t beg on it. The other “new” ship designs they have released are all from the old, now non-canon expanded universe.
I have not seen this before, anyone know where it is from?
Might it actually be an original design?
Yes it is an original design – they talk about it on the FFG news item.
Was done in conjunction with Lucasflim.
Look at the size of that thing
Take my money…
I’d have liked a Lancer-frigate, but this’ll fill the gap nicely. I do like though how it somewhat resembles the Storm Commando Corvette from Rogue Squadron 3, whilst retaining it’s own identity.
On FFG news item they mention that the Lancer is too large at 250m.
Love it
This just gets better and better. That would look fabulous on the big screen (hint hint)
“The odds of surviving a frontal assault on a Star Destroyer are approximately 3,740:1!”
“But that’s a ‘Raider’ class.”
…Recalculating…

“….Never tell me the odds…”
Nice an amazing looking ship.
Most of the posting that I have read analysis this expansion focus on what it does for the TIE Advance as it comes with a whole swag of cards for that fighter.
Some people were expecting an Aces box to help out the Advanced – it isn’t really seen in competitive play – but it looks like this box is meant to help out the small ship as well as give the Imperial players a big ship.
PS: someone at Team Covenant managed to spot an Emperor crew card.
They also suggest that there are 4 copies of the new TIE Advanced only upgrade cards.
Nerdgasm.
FFG will be taking more of my money 🙂
It’s not a moon! It’s a space station!
Well… maybe not… but I still like it.
I never got round to getting a CR90, but this could end up on my shopping list.
Getting this for my son on his birthday. He’ll be 1…so I guess I’ll need to taking for a few test games until he is old enough to play with it…
Why does FFG take all my money?
That is soooooooooooooooo nice…I really am getting swayed in to FFG’s SW Universe…
We play on a 8.5 ft by 5ft gaming table…….I can see this and the Blockade runner sideways on at the ends of the table with squadrons around them.
2 or 3 turns in you are allowed to start to manoeuvre them into attack.
Do you try and take out some of it’s sheilds or take on the on-coming fighters.
She’s a lovely looking thing, FFG should design ships more often.
Between this and Armada, it’s going to be a few expensive months.
