Critical Role Head To Undeadwood In New RPG Series
October 21, 2019 by brennon
The team behind Critical Role are hitting up Youtube with a new roleplaying series called UnDeadwood. The first episode aired over the weekend and it's already caught my attention!
You can watch the first episode of the series above featuring Brian W. Foster, Marisha Ray, Matthew Mercer, Khary Payton, Anjali Bhimani, Travis Willingham and Ivan Van Norman. The thing that immediately caught my attention was the fact they seem to be really enjoying that 4Ground Wild West Terrain they've got in the middle of the table!
Mix into that the amazing acting, fantastic outfits and general production value of this show and this seems like an ace tale to dive into. I was gripped after about five minutes after hearing Travis Willingham's speech.
For those interested in the system they're using, it takes Deadlands Reloaded which is a supplement for Savage Worlds. The system is really cinematic and well worth checking out if you get a chance.
I can't wait to see more of this blend of Wild West and their Weird as things progress.
Have you given this a watch yet?

I watched it, I’m not the biggest fan of westerns but it was alright.
Brian was the GM, he did a pretty good job keeping things rolling along. His story was not bad either, I will probably watch the rest of the series.
If only this is what RPG’s looked this cool like in real life …
I put a hood and cowl on once for one of my RPG games…no-one else dressed up haha.
I’d been waiting for this to be broadcast from the time the Critical Role team first started talking about it.
I was not disappointed! It’s well done with Really Good production levels.
Thanks @brennon for listing the system that they are using. Once my RPG players see this first episode I know they’ll be wanting to get a western going.
Lucky for me I already have two tables worth of 4Grounds western buildings that I bought for “Dead Man’s Hand” so I can even set up the table well. ??
I think you’ll enjoy Savage Worlds, it’s an awesome system and set of mechanics that you can quite literally do anything with.
I watched it last night, but was a little disappointed in the GM. Very much a railroad plot and he spent way too much time narrating and didn’t let the players do much. Despite some reservations about the system, I have ordered Savage World (SWADE) and going to try it on a home-brew game that I’m working on… I’d rather build my own world then try to remember details of another GM’s world. And I don’t have to use the political correctness and diversity that professional game designers seem to shove into their adventures… even when it doesn’t make sense… Read more »
I think folks should view this a little bit more like a play/RPG session. I think once you get past that it was pretty awesome entertainment, especially when you realise they are making all this stuff up off the top of their heads. Also, as this was the first session there was a lot of scene-setting to do. I’m sure in future ones we’ll see them have a bit more free reign perhaps. Savage Worlds is a great game system. Very free-flowing and cinematic. It dissolves a lot of the problems with other games where players go “so I can’t… Read more »
its a nice change from D&D half expecting Ian McShane to be in it. it was funny not seeing Matthew not being the GM.
