CMON Talk Umber Greataxes For A Song Of Ice & Fire: TMG
June 15, 2018 by brennon
CMON has talked more about one of the additional units you will soon be able to add to your Stark force in A Song Of Ice & Fire: The Miniatures Game. Here we have the House Umber Greataxes!
House Umber are loyal bannermen of House Stark and whilst they might not bring much cunning to the tabletop they have a decent amount of heft behind those axes. You can scheme as much as you want but when it comes to a one-on-one fight against these warriors, you better be good with a sword!
The models for them also look pretty good although I'd like a few changes here and there.
They have a fair degree of movement and strength to them but I think it would have been good to maybe see a couple of them with axes held over their heads, about to bring them crashing down on their enemies.
You will be able to expand the unit up to twelve in total and have access to a bannerman for the unit as well as you'll see above. One of the big things about the unit is the Executioner's Fury ability they have on their card.
If they have begun their activation locked in combat with the enemy they get to lay out a devastating amount of pain, cancelling their opponents use of defence saves! You can learn more of the tactics of using these hefty warriors HERE.
What do you think of the Umber Greataxes?

They are fabulous looking figures.
For reference, all the infantry units in I&F come in groups of 12. These guys have some pretty dangerous attacks.
Just checked the unboxing of the base game from the Weekender and <i am very disappointed to see that there is not much variation in scults for the troops at all.
I would have much preferred something more hobby focused in a smaller scale.
Joan d´Arc Should have been 28mm and this one should have been made in D´Arcs scale.
I disagree. This is a rank and file wargame. Whith movement trays. You need to rank them up fast even more so since there mechanics that bring them back into the trays. More variation would possible slow it down.
More variation would make it up for me if things possibliy took a bit longer.
I see this whole endevour from the hobbyists point of view and there it fails for me, because there is no building and hardly room for modifications and painting one and the same mini for weeks and even months, really doesnt do it for me.
Seeing it as more of a boardgame might help, but its not sliced and marketed as such.
Though some of the designs are really cool it fails for me as a miniature wargame as well as a boardgame.
This is a rank and file game, Im more annoyed that there are different poses, especially when you only get three kneeling figures so can’t even make up a front rank all of kneeling bowmen.
Tbh i dont like those sculpts. They look too generic for my taste.
Again for a rank and file wargame what would you want? They are generic troops which carry big axes
Those look very nice.
I like ’em. Rough and tumble rank and file. Would make a good barbarian command group.
I like them.I can see ASOIAF becoming my rank and file game of choice once it hits retail.
