Charge Into Battle With Plastic French Lancers By Warlord
February 29, 2016 by brennon
Warlord Games have come out with a new plastic kit for those of you wanting to add some cavalry to your Napoleonic French armies in Black Powder. See what you think of these French Line Lancers below who could be your answer to a bit of shock and awe on the tabletop...
Mostly used for scouting but with a deadly array of armaments these could be a good way to force your foes off the field. They would have been great at engaging other cavalry and of course infantry that had been caught out of formation.
Each of these riders were armed with a lance, sabre and two pistols meaning that they could answer plenty of problems. Warlord have also come up with a few options for your Lancers too.
Here you see them with options to make the riders into a Standard, Leader and Musician giving you the command element that would lead your men into battle. I think these soldiers look rather flashy and although I'd most certainly collect the British I think that they would make a fine addition to a French force.
What do you think?

I like them because they are plastics.
Odd tho that there are only four guys who actually have a lance…!?
I’d like all my lancers with a lance!
I know what you mean about the lances, but this is a historically accurate French lancer unit, the front rank was the only troops armed with the lance with the second rank to exploit gaps and opportunities, it’s what made them so effective
Correct. But still..it’s nice to have the option and then assemble them as you see fit. If you don’t want the command unit you would need six for the front rank and I’m not sure I’ll get enough here..
You can do a full unit of 12 lance armed troopers if you wish, the officer is optional and so is the trumpeter, the sprues are well thought out to be honest
That’s great news!
I haven’t seen the sprues as yet but will put them definitely on my shopping list for Salute..
You gotta support plastics after all and a unit of lancers is always welcome 😎
If you think these are good wait until you see the hussars, I really enjoyed painting those indeed
