The Champion Of Gollnir Defends His King For Avatars Of War
June 25, 2014 by brennon
Avatars of War are back to producing some more Dwarfs and this time around the miniatures is the Champion of Gollnir for Warthrone. This forms one of the Kings own bodyguard, much like Hammerers in Warhammer Fantasy. See what you think.
As you can see he is a very stout fellow as it is and it also gives you an idea of what to expect with the upcoming Iron Guard regiment. I like the big square shields that can be stuck into the ground and heaved forwards like a Roman legion. A very Dwarfish thing to be doing.
An awesome miniature and you can now pretty much make an entire Dwarf army from the Avatars of War range now. It's missing a few bits and pieces if you were interested in Warhammer Fantasy but on the whole everything at a core level is now covered. The sculpts are awesome as well.
What do you think?

The detail is amazing, but I’m not big on the pose. A little too static.
It’s static but detailed. Even if it wasn’t static though I wouldn’t care less, I have a friend of mine that’s STILL waiting for some of his dwarfs to show up from the IGG campaign they have so epically failed in. IIRC it’s more than 2 years that the campaign was funded and they are still… sculpting?
Thanks but… no thanks!
I own a lot of their dwarves, and you’re right. Ordering them was a painful process. I constantly had to enquire about my order. Eventually I got everything, am quite happy with them, but leery of ordering again, regardless of what they come up with.
A lot of their Apocalypse stuff, which was excellent, disappeared from the website over a year ago, due to a backlog, and it still isn’t back up. A shame, because they far superior to GW’s Chaos figures.
The first models they made were good but costly(37,50 euros for 20 models). Price is still up there but quality has gone way down with the cheap PVC they chose for their production. People had shouted out in different forums not to f*ck up the quality with PVC, but AoW didn’t listen.
Even worse the plastic version has shrunk and doesn’t even fit properly next to a GW WoC any more (definitely smaller). I guess it’s a habbit after sculpting dwarfs all these years, lol!
