Bulge: American Winter is Coming To The Ardennes For Flames Of War
October 1, 2021 by avernos
Winter is coming! Bulge: American takes Flames of War players to the German Ardennes offensive during the winter of 1944 and onwards, and Battlefront brings a range of new equipment to the frontline for the Allies.
Bulge: American is an 80 page hard back book giving you all the rules to defend against the Devil's Charge in the Ardennes. Alongside the book unit and command card decks are being released to make list building and gaming easier to manage and dice, token and objective sets themed to Infantry, Airborne and Armoured Divisions involved in the fighting.
All of the vehicles in the video are plastics with even the Sherman getting an upgrade sprue to convert the models in the box into the T34 Calliope Tank Platoon. For people looking to get stuck in with a new force for Flames of War there is the Spearhead Force, a starter army box that includes everything to get started including a booklet and unit cards, or if you're already a veteran the new kits will be available in platoon boxes from the same date November 6th.
For fans of plastics it's fantastic news that more vehicles have been made available for the Americans which will hopefully bring more people into historical gaming as it lowers the bar to entry. The Calliope is a great addition although I think I speak for German players everywhere when I say we don't need the Pershing and we definitely don't need the Super Pershing.
With a cold winter ahead in the Ardennes maybe it's time for fortify your position with Bulge: American.

Western Front > Eastern Front, don’t @ me.
I don’t mind either front as long as I don’t see any Super Pershings I’m grand 😉
Erm, the Pershing didn’t see any action until after the Ardennes Offensive had concluded. There was only one Super Pershing in the ETO. Why the hell is it included here?
And come on Battlefront, where’s the stowage for the M4’s? It was ubiquitous.
Ooooh they don’t let a little thing like history stop them (they also made a Sgt York for Team Yankee that never made it off the proving ground as it’s only “kill” recorded was a latrine :D). A lot of players play the game with just tanks (and ignore the infantry, anti-tank guns (unless it’s an 88), basically anything that isn’t a tank). So having a “super killy tank” to fight all the King Tiger 2s will just seem like a normal balancing thing for a pointed tourney list. They have fun, yes it’s not “historically accurate” but at the… Read more »
Yup, very good points. I did wonder if the super Pershing was in there to go toe to toe with the German heavy tanks. If people are having fun with it then I need to relax.
I still think they need to bring out stowage for the M4s though…;)
Basically FoW is tabletop War Thunder, with optional infantry. It’s not a simulation, it’s a way to get cool tank models go bang bang on the tabletop.
Don’t know if these would be of any use to you…..

They are in metal, and I’ve got LOADS of their infantry (I think they are better than BF as there’s a silly amount of variation…like 17+ versions of a rifleman)
See the funny thing is it did used to be quite historically accurate, prior to V4 they made a point of staying true to the history and Pershings weren’t seen until later on I think it was the Bridge at Remagen book where they appeared, as for Team Yankee, I think a bit of artistic license is ok, I mean it is a fictional scenario at the end of the day and it’s plausible that they could have approved units like the York even with it’s faults, you’re sadly spot on though with how the games changed it is pretty… Read more »
I think half the problem is Battlefront did nothing to try and “steer” the games back towards a combined arms style of game. There’s lots of things they could have done like giving you “free” units if you field a company of infantry, a battery of AT guns, and some mortars along with the tanks (a bit like GW did with their Battlescrolls in an attempt to ween the players away from some horrid “min-max” tourney list shenanigans). Perhaps they could have done some “refights” of historical actions with a “fixed” army list for each side in a narrative campaign… Read more »
Ooh tiger hunting in the woods nice.
