Brand’s Darkoath Tribe Come To Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
March 4, 2024 by brennon
Another of Games Workshop's previews for the weekend focused on Warhammer Age Of Sigmar and another set of characters. Based on the Hammer and Bolter episode, Monsters, you can now pick up Gunnar Brand and his Darkoath warriors for use in your games.

Gunnar doesn't put much trust in the gods but realises that they are a means to an end. Whilst he believes that he and his mortal kin should live free from the meddling of the dark gods, they are helpful in the pursuit of conquest and domination in The Mortal Realms. He has so far been able to escape the call of the Chaos Gods but he walks a fine line. I like a few shades of grey in my characters and Gunnar and his band of warriors certainly have that.

As well as Gunnar, you also have a number of the other main characters from the Hammer and Bolter episode. You've got the likes of Warqueen Tanari who is more inclined to work with the power of the Chaos Gods to get what she wants.
You've also got Dendrel Direbrand who is cut from a different cloth. His people were crushed by Korhgos Khul and the Goretide and so he has thrown in his lot with Gunnar and his kin. His Aqshian nobility allows him to sometimes slip inside enemy settlements and perhaps turn the tide, giving Gunnar and his warriors space to bring down their foes.

There is also the dark and dangerous Broken Nadja who is able to divine the meaning of the whispers the Chaos Gods send her way. She has never led Gunnar astray although perhaps she has her own plans in motion that she is trying to bring to fruition.

All of the miniatures look fantastic and have really captured the feel of the characters from the Hammer and Bolter episode. This does makes me wonder why the classic Warhammer Fantasy Battles Marauders are still in use when we could have awesome miniatures in this style popping up. I know a lot of folks use the various Warcry warbands from the initial release of the game to replace those old plastic miniatures!
The last of the miniatures from the set is mounted on the back of a thundering charger. Singri is Gunnar's daughter and decidedly headstrong!

Another great miniature for the set and another fun way for Games Workshop to bring characters from Warhammer Plus and Black Library to the tabletop.

We seem to be getting a lot of these sets which is a good way to keep the releases going as we move towards a new edition of Warhammer Age Of Sigmar in the Summer.
Are you going to be snapping up this set to add some new characters into your Chaos army?

Never watched anything Hammer and Bolter has produced, but these look lovely. They put me in mind of something else….I wonder if GW ever consider sitting down with John Wagner and Alan Grant and thrashing out the legal issues around Kaleb Daark? The 80’s was a long time ago guys, who wouldn’t want to see an animated series around the adventures of Kaleb Daark?
Sadly Brett Ewins who did the art for those long forgotten strips passed away a few years back, but gosh darn it, I would love to see Kaleb Daark rise again one day!
I vaguely recall two characters by the names of Jaek and Helwood from back then. Were they in the same strip as Kaleb?
YES! The Chaos Brothers – nothing at all to do with the Blues Brothers….
I’m not a fan of many armies in aos, but darkoath are good for any generic barbarian tribe.
Warcry does have a few good generic barbaric warbands, doesn’t it ?
For some reason the models don’t feel as over the top as the AoS armies tend to be.
There’s a few teams in Underworld that are suitable to non-AoS games too.
