Bombshell Take Off With Counterblast 2nd Edition Releases
August 29, 2018 by brennon
Bombshell Miniatures has revamped Counterblast, their quirky and retro Sci-Fi skirmish game, into a 2nd Edition and they have released their awesome Two-Player Starter Set for the game in its fun lunchbox form!
The Lunchbox Edition comes with all of the bits and bobs you need to play including a crew and their alien foes. I love the artwork that you see adorning the front of the box which takes me back to those old Sci-Fi films from the era of Star Wars and Legend.
Here's some more on Counterblast if you've not heard of it before...
"In keeping with the nostalgic feel of Counterblast, we're also pleased to offer an all-new two-player starter set for those beginning their adventures in the Outer Reaches or those wishing to expand their existing crews. This Counterblast Lunch Box Edition comes in a colour printed tin lunch box adorned with new art depicting the enterprising Lancer Captain Wanda Whitestar and her intrepid crew by the talented Gorgio Baroni."
If you would like to delve beyond that starter set, or if you already have the models, you can also pick up the Counterblast 2nd Edition Rulebook.
Counterblast is a skirmish-level miniatures battle game in an atomic raypunk setting. Players control crews of pulp sci-fi heroes plying the spaceways in search of uncharted worlds, alien artifacts, new territory for colonization, and essential deposits of ultonium. In this book you will find all of the information you need to play the game, including rules for how to create your crew, how to set up a table, and how to battle for control of the Outer Reaches and beyond!
The game seems like it could be a lot of fun and with such a low model count you would be able to put plenty of love and care into each of the characters you bring to the tabletop.
Will you be checking this out?

Like the IP and the squid aliens but £39.00 without shipping for a rulebook is too much…
To be fair, that’s because of the Brexit-related exchange rate 🙁
If the rate was what it should be then the book would work out at £30ish.
Another issue is that you could well get stung by Customs too. Which is a shame because I have a load of stuff and the 1.0 rules, but buying the 2.0 book is just too expensive.
My tracking shows my starter set is in Chicago at the moment! Excited!
I really want to get into this game, and LOVE the lunchbox idea. The price kills it for me right now though. $120 for 8 minis and quickstart rules? If this included the full rulebook I think I could go for it. But that sold separately, and really wanting the starter set, puts a full game of it at $170. Makes it a hard sell for me.
=(
Looks so awesome though.
That is ludicrous money for what’s in the box. I would pay £20-30 pounds max for what you get, especially as it only has quick start rules.
Dice and tape measure worth less than fiver between them,so you’re paying all that money for tin and a handful of miniatures.
I’ll stick to hardback rules and 84 miniatures in Battle of Pelennor Fields thanks.
The tin is probably equivalent in price to one of the smaller KR cases (the quarter case) so that’s £8.99, then the foam is 2 Battlefoam trays (£12 each for the smallest they do), say £5 for the dice and tape measure, and then, picking roughly cheap metal equivalents, £3 each for the bigger models models (£2 for the three smaller ones), that’s another £24 (assuming 6 bigger and 3 smaller models, but teh set actually has the flexibility to choose factions so the exact model/size count will vary), so it’s a £60 set at the very least. The $120… Read more »
I consider the tin superfluous as it’s basically a kids lunch box and certainly not of the quality of KR multicase. No mention of foam in the article above and that can be picked up cheaper.
But my low valuation is related to the low model count and the fact that you only get quick start rules.
Yes… it looks like it could be fun if the setting is as interesting as the artwork, but that is not enough to justify the expense in my opinion.
But each to their own.
Those look really good.
First thought: Ooooh lovely tin box…. second thought: 144 USD?! ARE! YOU! NUTS?! oO
I have to agree with most of the other posters here – I was very intrigued until I saw the price. WAY too much for what they’re offering.
