Black Wasp Games’ New Skirmish Game Warbands Hits Kickstarter
March 3, 2015 by brennon
Black Wasp Games' Kickstarter for Warbands has begun and they've got some really cool looking miniatures and a neat idea to share. This skirmish game looks like it has a whole bunch of character and depth to it so check it out in more detail...
Some more about the game itself...
"This is a skirmish game consisting of miniatures of high detail, using from 2 to 15 models in lower point games per side. With easy to learn streamlined rules and indepth tactical and strategic elements to master, Warbands is suited for both the beginner and experienced players. Offering a unique way of building your group with no factions and a alternating turn system helps keep the game balanced and creates swift and dynamic skirmish battles from any one of the 10 objective based scenarios in a world rich of history."
...which sounds pretty awesome to me. I like the idea of these micro-skirmish games right now where you can use a handful of miniatures to tell a great narrative story on the tabletop. Malifaux has of course been doing it for years now but the likes of Open Combat and more are also following this trend and it's great to see.
You can see above the list of different heroes that will hopefully be included in the game and this also serves to highlight one of the overriding 'winning' factors for me when it comes to this game. I think the artwork is superb. The slight cartoon style, almost like one of those 90's or 80's cartoons presides over these miniatures and hopefully that will translate into something awesome in miniature form.
You can check out some cool how to play videos over on their Kickstarter page as well as a range of other videos explaining the different ways they went about designing the game as well.
I think this is a game to keep an eye on!

Not bad – but a quick look at the video, and I missed a USP to get me to go in on it – maybe the mimis if we see some greens
For a while there i could have sworn he was explaining how to play Alkemy 😛 tbh i cant see anything i havent seen before, except perhaps the miniatures wich look good atleast in concept
Yeah, I’m gonna want to see sculpts before they see any of my money…
On their kick starter page there’s a video of their current models. Two completed with one still a WIP. They look pretty good so far though it would be nice to see them painted
OK, I watched that video. Generically static, boring poses on all of them, unfortunately. I’ll pass. (Same opinion as I have on Blood Rage BTW).
Nothing to dislike from game play or minis, but in a crowded market fear this maybe a little tried/tested and generic. Not one for me
