Become A Ghetto Lord In Funky Skull Games Street Wars Kickstarter
February 10, 2020 by avernos
From Brooklyn to The Bronx, New York is a crumbling cesspit and the streets are ruled by gangs who fight each other for glory, money, territory and, most of all, reputation. Gang-bangers wear their colours to show pride and spray paint their tags to mark their turf. No one is safe when the local gang is on the move and the only way to prevent them harming you is to pay them or join them. Grab your gang cut and weapon of choice, as your battle starts now. Fight your way across this once great City of New York to become the King of the Rubble.
Funky Skull Games have entered their final week in the Ghetto Lords Kickstarter and have already funded the Ghetto Lords gang for Street Wars - NYC. If you've ever seen Warriors and wanted to get that feel on the tabletop then this is the game for you. The GL is an eight man gang, each of which has a very distinctive look and the sculpts have been inspired by photographs of gang members from the 1970s giving them a grounded feel compared to the first three gangs that have a lot more of the hyper-real movie feel.
Nevertheless, the Ghetto Lord's have a wealth of character with every one of the sculpts being a unique sculpt and will make these an absolute joy to paint and individualise to your own gang ready to rumble across the streets of the Big Apple.
If you've never played Street Wars, it's a gang fighting game where you build you gang out of New Bloods, Street Soldiers, Lieutenants and of course your Warlord. As you play your gang members can level up to reach the rank above, but your Lieutenants won't become Warlords while he's still alive. Stats are based on the polyhedral dice and the stats themselves are the usual range, fight, skill, tough, and my favourite stat Funk! Used for initiative amongst other in-game rolls you know your warlord is the best when he's the funkiest cat on the block.
Apart from the Ghetto Lords, the Kickstarter has unlocked one MVP already, Jake le Fou from the Overtime Killers, a gang out of Midtown, Manhattan. He has a look that fills me with fuzzy warm nostalgia for my youth, for reasons. Hopefully we'll get to see the full gang in the future but this hockey fan with a taste for violence will have to do for now.
There are still plans ahead for Funky Skull in this Kickstarter and beyond with the Napoli Boys coming after the Lords stomp into town and if you fancy getting into Street Wars you can pledge to get the rules or any of the three previous gangs as well in this campaign. With less than a week to go there's plenty of time to jump on board, especially if you want to see a bit of the old ultra-violence...

Foot on Ghetto Blaster should be the new meta! Lovely figures.
A bit escape New York/clockwork orange great for a hill street blues type of game?
That makes me wonder, with all the various popular sci-fi and fantasy properties we keep seeing rehashed in different miniatures lines, how come we never see more Clockwork Orange-themed stuff? Admittedly the movie is horrifying, but it’s still an icon in its own way.
