Becca Scott Teaches Us How To Play Age Of Sigmar: Warcry
July 19, 2019 by brennon
Games Workshop has joined forces with Becca Scott once more in order to give you a rundown of How To Play their new skirmish game set in Age Of Sigmar, Warcry.
Pre-Order Warcry From Store.OnTableTop
Currently, the video is available over on their website, so if you're interested in getting stuck into this game you can check it out HERE. It goes through all of the options available to you during a turn, looking at movement, combat, special abilities and more.
I am very much enjoying the way the game seems to flow. It looks simple and quick to play with a focus towards brutality which is good to see. The iconography might be a little much to get your head around, to begin with, but afterwards, it should be second nature.
The way special abilities are triggered is also pretty cool. You roll dice at the start of the turn to decide initiative and then use any double, triple, quadruple etc sets to use abilities amongst your group. You can even mitigate bad luck a little with an extra die. It reminds me of the Stunt system from the AGE system used by Green Ronin.
It will be fun seeing what you folk all think of the game. I reckon this would make for an awesome hobby weekend of painting and gaming too...
Will you be playing Warcry?

Yey, Becca Scott, I mean… Warcry! Really looking forward to this one. I’ve seen mention of the iconography elsewhere but honestly I’ve watched this how to play video and the GMG review which were enough to understand the icons, seem fairly intuitive. I like that it’s an actions based game and how the combat is resolved quickly and packs a lot of damage. I think that’s a better system for skirmish, should be fun. Outside that, the warbands and the terrain look fantastic. I have a tonne of azyrite ruins and the blasted hallowheart board already so it will make… Read more »
Sound’s like a quick bloody game.
Watched the video yesterday and had a look around the Warcry website.
Bit disappointed with regard to the miniatures some of the factions require. You need a minimum of 3 boxes to build the full range of Daughters of Khaine I believe and that assumes you split the boxes to make the two option in some boxes… so you’re looking at £80+ to build a unit.
Hopefully they will make Warcry boxes for the non-chaos faction like they did for Kill Team.
Hmm that sucks. I guess they kinda hope you’ve got an army already. They said in a preview you could make a warband from one box, so that is a bit annoying to hear!
Well… technically you can… but the box in question is Daughters of Khaine Devoted of Morathi which is hard to find and costs £85+
Even the Soul Wars box leaves you short of all options for Stormcast and Nighthaunt.
The soul wars has nothing the stormcast can field. The only units you can field are from Vanguards.
Sorry… you’re right… I knew I had a Gryph hound and thought it was from that box, but it was from Stormstrike.
This looks pretty good! Tho I can’t use my current models like Lizardmen, Ogres, or Beastmen…. At least not yet.
Ok, the toughest of my Stormcast has SEVEN wounds, and she’s saying the Golem Goon at 01:40 has fifteen? Whatever happens if we try and convert these guys in AoS profiles?
So, @brennon I’ve been looking at this, (off and on today), and I’ve got a question. (or two)
If I didn’t want to play either of the warbands in the starter set, what would I have to buy inorder to play the game?
1) Core Rulebook
2) Warband cards
3) Faction Miniatures
Anything’s else that I’m missing?
Probably the cards for setting up the objectives for each game as well
4) Warcry: Battleplan Cards (this is the pack that has all the terrain, deployment and twist cards ) 5) dice … although you probably have bucket loads of D6’s already. 6) a ruler. They sell an 8 Inch ruler for Warcry, but that’s only useful if you’ve got money to burn 😉 I’m assuming the warband cards for Warcry factions are in the faction specific boxes. If you want to use any of your existing armies then you’d need the cardpack for that specific faction. You may want to look at the warcry website to see which units can be… Read more »
