Bears, Demons, Snakes & More From Mierce This Month
April 20, 2015 by brennon
Mierce Miniatures have a new range of heroes, villains, monsters and more for the world of Darklands. We'll kick things off with the burliest additions to the range...
Bear Men & Craven Fiends
First up we're going to have a look at Gromi, Caena, Seza and the Craven Fiends. Take a look at them below in order and pick which HUGE guy you think should be in your collection...
My favourite model is very much Caena because I love the idea of skin-changers and it's nice to see someone that isn't just going to be turning into a werewolf. Seza is also quite the fascinating miniature and while at first you think she's quite awkwardly posed soon you notice the third leg and it all makes sense!
I might have to grab Caena just to have him in my collection. I have no idea when I'd get round to painting him and indeed how I'd even go about not ruining the model but it would be a task I'd be interested in for sure.
Riding To Battle
As well as the huge models above there are some equally powerful looking riders too. Urien and Knutr are both looking great atop massive chargers and I love the flowing cloak of the aforementioned Knutr...
Both, once again, are incredibly well sculpted and come packed with detail. The amount of work that's gone into the fur, leather and indeed beard of Knutr is fascinating and even though I hate painting horses I could lay that feeling aside just to give this one a go. The axe even has some nice runic detail on the head if you look closely.
Come & Get It!
Of course you also need some figures that are posed simply to make your enemy fear them in a 'come and get it' style. See what you think of Mananaan and Sathach...
I quite like the more simplistic look to Mananaan. When I say simplistic I mean that by comparison his armour isn't as overly exotic as you might imagine for a warrior who appears to have pledged himself to some dark power or another.
Sathach is also a great sculpt and I love her two swords. I'd be tempted to paint them up in duel magical colours even if that isn't how it's meant to be. Her outfit is incredibly well detailed right down to the stitching and her hair would be fantastic to have a go at painting.
Trusssst In Me...
Last but not least we have the mighty Thoth who would put Wrath-Amon from Conan: The Adventurer to shame with the amount of snake-ness he has going on. Check him out...
I'm not really a fan of this aspect of Darklands and these kind of factions aren't really up my alley. I much prefer to look at the more Northern European and Celtic models compared to these from the rest of 'Europe'. Saying that it doesn't mean that the sculpt is any worse as the amount of work that's gone into the scales will testify.
What will you be picking up?

That’s some proper undivided symmetrical shiny champion armour right there.
Those are some great looking minis.
OOoh ! Bear ! 😀
Excellent minis all around, too.
is it just me or do they get the names from a tin of alphabety spaghetti
Mahna Mahna is a completely legit term.
Mananaan (do do do do do)
Celtic God of the Sea whom the Isle of Man is named is named after.
Bit odd that when other figures are given the Iron age treatment he is a Chaos Warrior
Crawen fiends and the bear, best out of the lot imo 🙂
What size are they gromi would make a good ogre commander?
Yep me want Bear give me Bear. That’s all i can say.
Currently the best Fantasy miniatures in the market, seriously these guys are just stunning in detail and worth the high price, I hope their rules will bring them up to the level of infinity is for sci fi!.
Mixed blessings
Sathach is not too bad but the crossguards are way too big for the swords, especially id they are to be used by a two handed fighter.
She won’t be able to bend over without the dagger’s pommel digging into her midriff.
Chainmail protecting the empty space between the legs is not good armour design.
Why sculptors still insist on the “tea towel” is beyond me.
The undersized legs of Gromi is a real shame, because the upper half is looking really good.
I am going to be criticised for being negative, but these things detract from being credible models for me.
