Battle On With Charlemagne, Emperor Of The West For SAGA

Gripping Beast has recently added a new character to their roster for use in SAGA. Charlemagne, Emperor of the West looks set to lead armies to war.
This mighty King was a powerful leader and eventually over time laid the foundations for what we now know as modern France and Germany. He was the first Emperor to be recognised after the fall of Rome, and founded the Carolingian Empire.
Leading campaigns against the Saxons and the Muslim armies of Spain he was very highly thought of and the depth of research you could do around this man would surely lead to all manner of interesting tabletop scenarios.
His model here represents him here as a statesman and a leader rather than a full-on warrior. While he might not be charging off into battle anytime soon I reckon he'd be a good figurehead to follow and of course you could set up quite the game as you protect him from jealous rivals.
The Saxon Wars would certainly be very interesting to explore but I'd like to know how you'd use Charlemagne on the tabletop.

The horse looks a little small for him, is that historically accurate of just the scaling off a little?
Weren’t larger horses only bred in the later part of the medieval period to be able to carry knights in full plate and horses before then were smaller on average?
I think they had a few earlier on for baggage trains and what not.
Horses at this time were basically bigger ponies. I’m not too sure about when they got bigger but around 1100 AD we’re seeing full sized horses bred for war.
