Bane Of Kings // Oathmark: Battles Of The Lost Age
Here is the big dose of fluff and lore that comes with the description of the Bane Of Kings expansion...
"Time is the bane of all kings. Always does it march forward, bringing change and challenges, wars and disasters, invaders and internal rebellion. This supplement for Oathmark: Battles of the Lost Age, focuses on the passage of time and its effect on a players kingdom. While wars and battle still determine their ultimate fate, many other events can affect the armies of a kingdom. Plagues and blights can reduce access to soldiers from specific territories. Attempted coups can cost a king some of his best generals. On the other hand, unexpected alliances might give a kingdom access to unusual troops, or the birth of a new heir might bring wondrous presents."
What does this equate to in terms of mechanics? It allows you to train your units to fight in specific formations. This means you can set them up in phalanxes, shield walls and skirmish lines. You can develop and tweak your existing army with new strategies and tactics to help you overcome your foes.
You'll also find, as is the norm now, a bunch of military expeditions to play out. These scenarios are usually a good challenge and allow you to bring the new mechanics from the expansion to the tabletop. I am very eager to see how this turns out. I can think of many a Dwarf player for example who would like to set up an unbreakable shield wall.
Blow the war horns!
"I can think of many a Dwarf player for example who would like to set up an unbreakable shield wall..."
I’m not tooting any horns… think of all the aerosols!
Thankfully not too many aerosols on this site.
This will give player’s the oppositions to try and direct the enemy’s force’s into trap killing grounds
There should be also chariots for every faction.
From the brief “Lets Play” videos I’ve been able to find, Oathmark seems to be a very bloody (ie casualty high) system. I’d LOVE to see BoW do a more in depth (round by round) Lets Play offering so we can see a little more of the game and how it compares to games like KoW…
