Badger Games Go To War With Dark Age Norse-Irish!
April 1, 2019 by brennon
Badger Games are going to be making Gerry and Lloyd very happy thanks to their new range of Dark Age Norse-Irish by Pontoonier Miniatures. Check them out starting with Brian Boru here!
The collection actually brings together eighty new miniatures for you to use in your Dark Age games like, heaven forbid...SAGA! Man, you can't go a week without talking about it once at the moment, can you?!
The idea is that the range covers the period where the Norse influence over the Irish was strong where many of the Nordic travellers 'went native' as it were and joined in with the customs and lifestyles of their new neighbours.
The miniatures on offer range from command elements through to more heavily armoured individuals like those you can see above and also your regular warriors too.
You could very comprehensively get lost in this range I think. There's pretty much everything you'd need in order to start a warband in SAGA or maybe run with them as the basis for a warband in a game like Blood Eagle or Ragnarok instead too.
So, just as Gerry thought that he was finally done with his Dark Age Irish, a few more options now land in his lap. Whilst they might not be fully blooded Irish folk, ready to defend their homeland, I'm sure that he and Lloyd will find a way to include them on their most wanted list.
Make sure to check out the store for lots more options from Badger Games.
What do you reckon to these new Norse-Irish fellas?

cannon fodder for King Harold?
Ah a proper Irish King. So drunk he can barely stand. 🙂
in his defense at 73 it probably didn’t take as much to get him hammered.
Not the first, and certainly not the last drunk to be buried in Armagh!
best way to view Armagh
Through the rear view mirror is the correct answer 🙂
well yes if you can’t flee then being dead is the ideal. Being a Down man I always aim to avoid

I’ve read “dark irish” and now I’m disappointed that this is no beer…. *sad*
Those look rather good.
that’s a really interesting concept. I’m guessing they are mostly Dublin area.
But when I did archaeology there was talk of a Viking settlement near Larne (attested in the annals?) and then there is the grave at Bangor. Bangor Heritage Centre has a reconstruction of the longship and crew coming ashore at Belfast Lough
There first landing in Ireland was at Annagassan a bit up North from Dublin
There were Viking settlements all over Ireland. Apologises now if some of this is incorrect as I am going of memory. “Longphort” is an Irish word that came to mean Viking settlement – long meaning ship and phort meaning port. So most places with ford at the end, tend to be Viking settlements – Waterford, Wexford etc. I think Longford is actually an exception. The whole Vikings in Ireland history is fascinating and there would have been a lot of Irish captured as slaves and traded or brought all over the world. I think it is something like 60% of… Read more »
About two years ago I tried to find a book about Viking Ireland and all I could find was chapters in other works 🙁
