Avatars Of War Call On New Heroes For The Arena & The Battlefield
February 19, 2015 by brennon
Avatars of War have added three new heroes to their line up for both Warthrone and Arena Deathmatch. The first of these is for the bloody sands and comes in the form of Athlean Retiarius...
Athlean is armed with a rather deadly looking Trident that will be pinning his foes to the ground after he's netted them. The finishing blow is then delivered with that rather impressive looking sword too. According to the bit of background on this chap he is fast and agile, dropping heavy armour in favour of being able to move around quickly and harass his foes.
Both the brutish armies of the Goblins and the Barbarian hordes are also getting themselves leaders that have managed to escape being put to death in the arena and are now waging war on battlefields of their own. The Goblin King himself is suitably lavish in his own odd way and I like the very imperious stance he's holding. He certainly looks like he knows what he's doing!
As well as him we've got the Berserker Tyrant with a clutch of heads in his hand. I'm not overly fond of the stance here but he looks suitably old school in his design. I could see this chap being part of an 80's or 90's range; especially with that hair!
What do you think of them?

Why don’t GW make individual Fantasy models like this any more 🙁
They still do, according to the GW loyalists. They’ll defend any substandard scrap that gets tossed their way — a bizarre form of Stockholm Syndrome. And of course, GW doesn’t need to produce anything better because their customers don’t demand it.
Great models, although when I hear goblin king of the Labyrinth I visualise David Bowie.
@poosh I think because they have to focus on continued support of 3 systems (Well arguably 2 – no I won’t let it go until I have a Dain on a boar model) and as such leave little room for putting out individual sculpts. Although some of the training pieces new sculptors do could easily be put out but again it may be space in manufacturing schedule.
Those look really good.
