An Army of Shieldmaidens Comes from the North of Shieldwolf
December 9, 2014 by dracs
Shieldwolf Miniatures have put out their latest concept sketch revealing the third of the fantasy armies they are working on, a force of Northern Alliance Shieldmaidens.
This army is apparently an all female force, made up of northern women descended from those who left their abusive menfolk in favour of surviving in the frozen wilderness of the Northern Alliance Territories. Their tolerance for the cold (evidenced by a distinct lack of wool jumpers and scarfs) and years combating the threats of this region has reportedly turned them into one of Shieldwolf's toughest factions.
It will be interesting to see a full army fielded of these Nordic beauties. Of course, this isn't the first time we've seen scantily clad, valkyrie type warriors, but it will the first time a whole army of them has taken to the field. It will be interesting to see what other units this force brings with them. I'm hoping for polar bear riders!
Would this be your faction of choice from Shieldwolf Miniatures?
Concept looks nice it would appear they are going to do several races when you look at there website. An all female army does appeal to me kind of makes me think of the family Christmas party based on recent history.
Please be armoured, and not semi-covered in some sort of bizarre sheer negligée.
… but what if its a … Mithril negligée ? (O .o) ?
That does look promising.
It would be nice if they didn’t undermine the feminist description of the new faction with decidedly traditional revealing clothing…
I actually agree with you guys. When will they make northern barbarian chicks that are actually dress properly for northern the weather.
It’s a shame. I think that there’s room in the hobby both for sensible, realistically-proportioned female miniatures and for ‘pin-ups’ (which is not to say that sexist models are appropriate everywhere).
The mistake Shieldwolf are making here is to take the sexist stereotype and pretend (or even believe) that they are making it modern and not-sexist by giving the women a heroic backstory.
Overall, I wish the hobby would move much more in the direction of a more modern depiction of women.
I have purchased their wild orcs box and their quality is top notch
I agree – I’ve got a box of them and they are really good.
