Grab Armies Of Orcs & Elves With Hobday & Hicks’ New Kickstarter
August 22, 2024 by brennon
Andy Hobday and Paul Hicks of Hobday & Hicks (still a great name for a detective agency) are now on Kickstarter with their project to bring their new 28mm Fantasy range to life and a set of rules for use with The Barons' War.
Orcs Vs Elves - The Barons' War: Fantasy Skirmish // Hobday & Hicks
The focus of this campaign is to bring you two big armies full of miniatures for you to use in your tabletop games and start a new tabletop miniatures business. Paul Hicks is a sculptor who we have seen work across many different periods of history and has sculpted for Empress Miniatures, Footsore Miniatures and Brigade Games to name a few. Andy Hobday has designed some great games like Gangs Of Rome, Mortal Gods and the basis for this campaign, The Barons' War.
If you're interested in finding out more about the Hobday & Hicks project, you can check out a couple of Q&A videos below which answered questions from the community...

Q&A Part Two
When it comes to this campaign though, you're going to get a whole bunch of awesome 28mm miniatures that have all been traditionally sculpted and will for the most part be available in white metal. The mounts for the Orcs will be in resin and plastic with resin heads for the Elves. The larger creatures, like the Troll and Elemental, will be produced in resin.
Pledge Options
When backing the campaign, you can either go in at the Build Your Own Warhost pledge and buy just the packs you want from the Orc and Elf ranges. However, if you'd like to take the thinking out of the occasion, you can just pledge for either the full Elf Warhost or the full Orc Warhost.

Elf Warhost // Hobday & Hicks
Both sets come with some great character miniatures, regular troops like swordsmen and spearmen alongside elite troops. Both sets also get a "big guy" with the Orcs getting the aforementioned Troll and the Elves getting the Air Elemental. Whilst these miniatures are all going to be great for a myriad of different games, they also come with background from Hobday that slots into their own Fantasy world.
If you'd like to go really big, you can also get the All-In Deal which comes with both of the Warhosts.
All-In Deal // Hobday & Hicks
Last but not least, and for a pretty reasonable price all things considered, you can also get the Unique Sculpt pledge where you'll work with Paul Hicks and Andy Hobday to bring your likeness or unique sculpt into the world of The Barons' War: Fantasy Skirmish.
Unique Paul Hicks Sculpt // Hobday & Hicks
As they said over on Kickstarter...
"Add yourself into the Hobday & Hicks fantasy world by having yourself sculpted by Paul Hicks, following his guidelines. Andy Hobday will then work with you to create a profile so you can lead your choice of Warhost to victory!"
This all sounds very cool and I like that as well as the unique miniature, you can also get some rules for using them in your games.
If you also back the campaign during the first twenty-four hours, you will also get this special miniature for Athicus The Chronicler.
Early Bird Bonus // Hobday & Hicks
He is the in-world loremaster from their world and you'll see his name on all of the lore snippets that pop up during the campaign. I sense you could put together some fun scenarios where you're trying to keep Athicus The Chronicler alive as he tries to learn more about the world that he inhabits.
Do you think you could be drawn into this Kickstarter and a new Fantasy world from Hobday & Hicks?

I don’t think there is such a thing as too many orcs is there? These look like they will fit in well and add some good variety to my existing armies for Lord of the Rings, Saga and Oathmark as well as for the Barons War supplement when it lands. I’m backing it.
I’m going to do a frostgrave crew based around the elf ships crew and the elf guardians. Would just need to get the other mage and some archers. I really like the look of the elves, they’d do well as drow/dark elves or as sea elves.
I was forgetting Frostgrave and I play it quite often. There is certainly a lot of mileage to be had with these figures not just for current games but for rule sets we’ve yet to see.
I have backed this Kickstarter for the elves. I like nearly everything about this project, except for the wolf riders, which I find a bit too strange – just not to my liking.
I was also a bit disappointed that they did not produce an independent rule-book, rather than a pdf supplement to Baron’s War. Maybe if the game proves popular, they will publish one in the future.
