Ares Games Get Their Wings Of Glory With Giants Of The Skies Kickstarter
March 17, 2015 by brennon
Take to the skies in some absolute behemoths from World War I thanks to the folks at Ares Games as they launched their Wings of Glory: Giants of the Skies Kickstarter!
"The British Handley Page O/400 was a colossal Entente bomber used to support ground troops on the Western Front and fly bombing raids deep into the enemy territory…"
"The German Zeppelin Staaken R.VI was the largest airplane ever to fight during World War 1, with a wingspan more than 30 feet larger than a WW2 B-17 Flying Fortress."
As you can see these really are beasts of the skies and they really were that big! You can see how these planes measure up against some of the other planes of the period on this chart they put together.
See! Huge! While these planes didn't see a huge amount of action they took part in pivotal engagements during the last months of the war. As you might imagine with planes this big they were focused on bombing and so were used to hit London and German factories - a precursor to the air raids of World War II in essence.
The folks at Ares Games have already bust through two of their stretch goals as you can see above and no doubt they will continue to do more as they go. Scenarios and a Wings of Glory App are on the cards for later on down the line so keep an eye out for those.
What do you make of these huge planes? Did you even know they existed!?
Let us know!

That zeppelin is a beast!
Enter big boys of WW1 era skies.
The zeppelin staaken even makes the Hanley page look small.
