Archon Studio announced a new take on Heroes Of Might & Magic. They have already released the board game and now they have eyes on a wargame with Heroes Of Might & Magic: Battles coming next year.

Heroes Of Might & Magic: Battles will feature some new and innovative game mechanics from the minds of both Andy Chambers and Jervis Johnson, legends within the wargaming world and the minds behind some immense games like Battlefleet Gothic, Necromunda, Warhammer 40,000 and more. They will also be joined by Jacek Karpowicz who designed Masters Of The Universe: Battleground.

You'll be diving into initiative-based alternating activations, tactical reinforcement rules and the use of cunning manoeuvres. All of this will be wrapped in easy-to-use rules which is designed to engender fast-paced gameplay.

Jervis Johnson: Heroes of Might & Magic: Battles has been a great project to work on. I especially like the unit activation rules, which allow elite units with high morale to steal the initiative and move before their opponents can react. It makes positioning units and timing when to attack really important, and creates an 'interactive' sequence of play rather than the more traditional I-Go-U-Go system used in many other games.

Andy Chambers also weighed in with his thoughts on what's coming up...

Andy Chambers: The tabletop battle rules have clicked together really well, with Jervis doing all the heavy lifting and me throwing rocks from the sidelines just like in the old days when we were making games together in the 90s. It shouldn’t be a surprise, really, as we’re clocking in at a combined seventy years-worth of experience designing tabletop games (yes, really), but it was still nice to see that we’ve still got it.

Players of Heroes Of Might & Magic: Battles will be able to dive into a hobby as well as a wargame with a range of detailed plastic miniatures based on the characters, monsters, troops and more from the computer game.

Pre-orders for Heroes Of Might & Magic: Battles are going to be launching next year so there's still plenty of time for Archon and the team to get stuck into the details and preview what we've got to look forward to.

With some great minds behind the rules and Archon's great work when it comes to plastic miniatures, this sounds like it could be a very intriguing prospect indeed!
