American Civil War Releases Coming Soon From Perry Miniatures
December 3, 2015 by brennon
Perry Miniatures have previewed some of the upcoming American Civil War models that will be popping up on tabletops soon. This is certainly becoming a rather popular area of wargaming to explore probably in part to the Perry's work! First up it's the Berdan's Sharpshooters...
These soldiers were some of the most professional and sought after from the time period and they had an incredibly good track record. They even had rifles with telescopic scopes allowing them to pick off targets from longer ranges with more precision.
Following on from them we have some Early War Confederates who are dressed in cut down uniforms to try and get rid of some of that heat from the summer sun.
As you can see they have worked with a range of different options for both hats and clothing, as well as weapons. This is great to see and interesting from a gaming point of view as it allows you to create a varied looking group of soldiers.
What do you think of their previews?

they look beautiful well detailed figures.
Every time I see Perry’s ACW figures I have mixed feelings. Love the figures but just so sad I’ve not found a good set of rules for 28mm that you could fit into an evenings gaming.
You could easily play regimental Fire and Fury in an evening
Bugger… Looks like two more packs will be added to my Rebs…
I agree @huscale a decent set of period feel 28mm ACW rules has been lacking. @pisrs are you up for it after Battlegroup ?
I’ve tried RF&F for 28mm and its ok, but in my opinion it plays much better in 15mm and smaller.
Going back to the figures, the sharpshooters look very nice. But, as for the early confederates they are ok for Rebs. Lol. (I’m a Union player, my wife plays the Rebs).
The Perry’s new ACW Battle Box features fast play rules that have been previewed in the latest Wargames Illustrated. They use the units in the box and managed a game in a couple of hours. Whether the rules provide the flavour of the period is open to question, but perhaps they’re worth a look. From the preview I’d be tempted, but have too many projects on the go at the moment.
Sorry @piers for getting your name wrong, bloody big fingures and small buttons on my phone.
We’ve played large games of Black Powder in a single evening. I don’t think they’ve released an ACW supplement yet, but I’m sure it’d be easy enough to build the forces using the rules in the main book.
“Aw hell. more needs than want. Damned you you miniature toy making ………..”, 3/4 an hour later still mid rant, “….go on then make some more incredible ACW figures I dare yo………..” and finally 1, 1/2 hours later, “…….you know I will buy them anyway, so why argue with what is certain.”
Love Perry Minutures
huscarle have you tried Black Powder?
