Agema Miniatures are moving away from the Etruscans in 2021 with a shift in focus to tribes of Gauls and Celts instead. You'll be able to dive in and get your hands on all manner of "barbarians at the gates" starting with this Gallic Chieftain they previewed this week.

Gallic Chieftain #1 - Agema Miniatures

Gallic Chieftain // Agema Miniatures

The sculptor behind this range, Stavros, has been tinkering about with all manner of interesting characters and started out with this fellow being carried aloft on a shield. Whilst the team at Agema have said that there are no recorded references to a chieftain ever being carried on a shield it does look rather awesome and puts folks in mind of Asterix!

Gallic Chieftain #2 - Agema Miniatures

Gallic Chieftain // Agema Miniatures

This Chieftain is holding his sword aloft and challenging those before him to face him down. He is also holding the head of a poor Roman soldier who tried to take him down and is supported by two straining minions.

In terms of the details here, Agema chose to put the Chieftain in Linothorax armour and the shield in question is an Aspis which might have been taken from a Successor or Roman officer. They also mentioned that he Chieftain can be removed from the shield and placed on the ground if you prefer him that way.

Having seen what fun things that Agema has done in the past few months for their Etruscans I am eagerly awaiting what they put out for the Gallic and Celtic tribes of Europe. I'm sure we're going to get all manner of fun and interesting characters and troops to play around with.

Are you tempted by the thought of a Gallic army to battle with against Rome?

"This Chieftain is holding his sword aloft and challenging those before him to face him down..."
