Age Of Sigmar’s Marauders Get The Upgrade They Deserve!
March 4, 2024 by brennon
Just this morning I was lamenting the fact that the Darkoath Marauders of Warhammer Age Of Sigmar were still the old plastic miniatures from Warhammer Fantasy Battles. Well, Games Workshop's ears must have been burning as they now have an awesome set of revamped miniatures for you to start your Darkoath army.
Darkoath Chieftain On Warsteed // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
Shop Warhammer Age Of Sigmar @ Store.OnTableTop
Leading the way is the Darkoath Chieftain. At the head of your tribe, they are those touched by the gods and whilst not fully giving themselves over to the powers of Chaos, they can accomplish some mighty deeds thanks to watchful eyes from afar.
This miniature (above) comes with three heads plus two options for the steed. You can also choose between a sword or an axe. Wear a mask or let your enemies see their doom approaching!
A Monstrous "Gift"
When a Darkoath Chieftain or champion gives themselves over to the powers of Chaos, that's when you get a Wilderfiend. Even in this monstrous form, they are still watchful guardians of their former mortal companions and will slay anyone who dares to enter their territory.
Darkoath Wilderfiend // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
An awesome beast with lots of different accessories for you to focus on as you're painting. Additionally, there are a couple of head options for you to choose from. I quite like the closed maw myself as it looks a little more menacing in my opinion. You can check out some of the other options on the Warhammer Community post.
New Marauders!
As well as the new characters, there are some newly updated core miniatures for your Darkoath Tribe. Leading the way are the Marauders who have been given a nice upgrade, bringing them in line with a lot of the miniatures we've seen for the likes of Warcry.
Darkoath Marauders // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
The new Darkoath Marauders set comes with a variety of one-handed weapons for you to use in battle or spears. You can also make a Champion, Musician or Icon Bearer for the warband as well. There are also thirty different heads for you to choose from, a dozen or so shields and five male and five female bodies for you to choose from. A superb new set for representing the Marauders of The Mortal Realms.
Have no fear if you'd prefer to dive in and do battle on horseback. You can also get your hands on these ace Darkoath Fellriders.
Darkoath Fellriders // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
Another great set with loads of heads, shields, and face masks for your horses and then a bunch of javelins and blades. You can, again, also build a champion, musician and icon bearer for your unit. Either use these riders to harass your enemies or smash them to the ground under the hooves of your massive chargers.
New Darkoath Army Set
All of these miniatures are included as part of the upcoming Darkoath Army Set which celebrates the release of these new miniatures for your Slaves To Darkness army.
Darkoath Army Set // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
You get the Darkoath Chieftain, two sets of the Darkoath Marauders, Darkoath Fellriders and Wilderfiend. Combine this with the Brand Tribe that we saw over the weekend plus a plethora of different kits from the Warhammer Age Of Sigmar range (like the Chieftain or the Warqueen) and you'll be fit to make a proper Marauder army.
As well as the Army Set, there is a new supplement coming for Slaves To Darkness. The new Battletome Supplement: Darkoath will cover the new Warscrolls from the army box, and the lore of the Darkoath plus feature new art for you to use when painting your armies. Chaos Undivided awaits!
The Army Set will feature four Warscroll Cards and a set of Tokens plus the supplement. The Supplement will then be available separately as a free PDF download after the launch of the set.
Could you be tempted by this new Army Set and those new miniatures?

It’s like they took the old Chaos Marauders and gave them a direction and good sculpts. They’re probably too expensive to bother with, but I would like having the marauder troops and the new Chaos spawn for TOW.
Why are we seeing GW going back to the sh!tty business model of selling Codex/Battletome supplements again?, why wasn’t the Slaves to Darkness release pushed back to coincide with this?? now players have to manage a rules supplement – one which like the rest will likely get “balanced” in the next meta-watch – to use the minis when they could have already been in the overall Battletome had GW done things properly, it’s bad enough that the rules are in a printed format to begin with, especially with all of the balancing updates they do that make the printed copies… Read more »
These models are awful, but I think the Supplement is a free PDF ?
It is a free PDF but my point was that it is yet another separate set of rules that need to be managed and manually adjusted by us the players, they only released Slaves to Darkness last year, why not hold them back another 6 months and push the release of this forward 6 months to make them all one item?. They did supplements in 40k in 7th or 8th and it was an absolute pain in the arse for players, not just because it cost even more money as at that time you had to buy the codex supplements… Read more »
backfire how ? the fans still buy into the system … and they’re not stopping. Besides … We’re currently in the campaign book series that marks the end of the current AoS and beginning of the new. So in about 6 months they are either releasing or have released the next version of the rules anyway. Additional delays would not please the shareholders. And since when have GW codexes been stable ? It may not always be as bad as when the not-space-dwarves got an update on day 1 of the release of their armylists, but given that they’re publishing… Read more »
It’s actually crazy how bad these models are. Other than the Wilderfiend (which is just a Chaos Spawn) it’s quite an achievement to make these models worse than the 2002 Chaos Marauders but somehow GW did it. The Chieftain is weirdly fat and unimpressive. The infantry have zero imagination other than the icons: they’re the most bland, generic “evil barbarian” trope possible with nothing but going over the top in CAD with the leather to make them stand out. And to top it off their faces are just awful, like weirdly terrible, even worse than the 2002 models. At least… Read more »
I do kind of like the style, fewer skulls and a bit more generic is a good thing.
The fact that there will be zero chance of being able to buy them would be the only thing to stop me from wanting them.
