The Abyssal Dwarfs Take To The Sea In Mantic Games’ Armada
June 30, 2023 by brennon
Mantic Games are launching a new fleet into the waters of Pannithor for their naval Fantasy wargame, Armada. The Abyssal Dwarfs are powering up their mighty vessels and looking to take over the seas with a new Starter Fleet and more.
Abyssal Dwarf Starter Fleet // Armada
The miniatures for the Abyssal Dwarfs are terrible behemoths, a mixture of churning metal and belching smog with twisted skulls fashioned onto the prows. They look distinctly demonic which is probably quite fitting and very much slot in with that vibe of engineering excellence that you often get from Dwarfs in Fantasy games.
Some more background on the Abyssal Dwarfs...
"The shipyards of the Abyssal Dwarfs are hellish places – sprawling factories and blazing forges belching smoke into the already black skies over Tragar. Yet only a small portion of the shipyards lie overground. The cruel, pulsing heart of Abyssal Dwarf industry burrows deep though cliff face and mountainside, drawing power from the infernal Abyss itself."
Starting things off for the Abyssal Dwarfs, you have the Starter Fleet which features three resin ships. You get the Angkor, Infernox and the Katsuchan to get you started in Armada.
If you want to take things to the next level, you can snap up the Abyssal Dwarf Booster Fleet which gives you a few different ships to tinker with.

This set comes with another of the resin Ankgor vessels but you also get a Decimator and two Blacksouls. I love how "metal" the names are for some of the vessels in this Abyssal Dwarf fleet. It fits very well with their vibe in Kings Of War.
You can also get your hands on a big ship to give you the upper hand in some of the larger engagements you'll be playing in Armada. See what you make of the Hellfane Battleship!

The Hellfanes are the terrible answer to the Dreadnoughts used by the Imperial Dwarfs. They are floating blasphemies and are powered by anguished souls. Their entire purpose is to sow terror in your enemies and make them quake before getting blown to smithereens by heavy firepower.
Last but not least, you can also get yourself a set of Fliers for the Abyssal Dwarfs which might be useful when harassing your opponent.

This set comes with a swarm of Gargoyles which are looking to swoop down on the decks of ships and pluck sailors up, sending them to their doom. You also have the strange Caged Gun Worm which is a fusion of infernal technology and maggot. A terrible creature that could do some serious damage if it found itself suckered onto the side of a ship.
Will you be snapping up these new Abyssal Dwarfs for Armada?

chunky but nicely detailed
Those ships (and the Dakkajet) look amazing. Is the game any good?
Yeah it is! Plays very nicely, rules are easy to learn but there’s loads of depth to it. Some very good scenarios as well.
Cheers. I need a new project like a hole in the head but also my will is weak. We’ll see.
Ooh nice but they look more Ork ship’s than Dwarf.
I currently have two Armarda navies but how many is too many???? Four? Five? All of them ?? Is there such thing as too many navies?? These are the philosophical questions I am pondering as this fleet looks amazing
