Get A Look At The 12th Doctor & Companions From Warlord Games
August 20, 2016 by brennon
Warlord Games have now shown off the painted and unpainted versions of the Twelfth Doctor & Companions. See what you think of Peter Capaldi and his chums for the Doctor Who Miniatures Game.
Last time around the feeling was that the sculpts weren't looking too great but I think look close to the actors involved and have a bit more dynamism to them.
In a way I think these are most likely being made to be both collectable pieces for fans of the show and gaming pieces too. It will be interesting to see how the plastic models come out too.
Let me know if you're opinion has changed on the models in the comments.
What do you think?

That has to be the stupidest look they could have used for the Dr.
Not impressed with any of them, much prefer the “not Dr Who” Dr who miniatures
Overall I think this is a better set than the previous one shown. There’s still an issue of not capturing the likenesses of the actors, but for the most part the poses are better – Vastra and Jenny look like they’re about to lay down an epic smack down, Strax is in mid-action of a recurring joke with him and the Doctor himself (as much as I would rather him be without a guitar) has a cocky swagger befitting the character. Let down is Clara who’s just sorta standing there. Now granted she’s not action orientated like Vastra and Jenny,… Read more »
Except how do you ‘look clever’ ?
Rose at least had that one scene in the series where she has a gun of sorts.
I don’t remember Clara (or any other modern companion) doing anything except run or stand still.
Arms crossed with one hand raised with index finger extended – fairly sure she used that pose several times in the show.
To be honest it doesn’t *have* to be look clever, but it would be nice if it was more than just sorta standing there not doing much. Even a running pose would be an improvement, and considering DW is regarded as tongueincheek as being ‘running down corridors from monsters made of bubble wrap and sticky back plastic’ I can’t see non-gamer collectors objecting to such a pose.
@lordofuzkulak Agree with everything you’ve said there. Overall much better, and actually quite like Pete Capaldis pose. It is an odd thing to see the Dr with a guitar but it reminds me of him explaining The Bootstrap Paradox. Best opening to a Dr Who ep ever.
I’m not convinced. The unpainted clara doesn’t seem to have much of a face at all. Also giving the doctor a guitar reminds me that I haven’t really been enjoying Capaldi as the show keeps doing goofy stuff like the doctor playing electric guitars to medieval cultures for some reason.
If they hadn’t labelled the minis, I’d have never guessed that was supposed to be Clara. I think part of the problem with the Clara model is she’s wearing a fairly atypical outfit. She did wear that in the show, but it’s not really what I would associate with her character.
Very nice. I do like those.
still crap and disappointing =(
I feel the same as before. Which is to say that I quite like them, and would enjoy using them in ‘Dr Who-esque’ games or weird, modern mash up games… but I’ve only seen occasional episodes and so don’t recognise a lot of the characters. And those I do recognise I can see why people don’t think they look very close to the actors’ likenesses. The poses don’t worry me as most of them are (I think) supposed to be civilian type characters, but I suppose for non-action posed models it’s even more important that they really do look like… Read more »
I’m quite a big Dr Who fan but these sculpts aren’t doing anything for me at all. Think I’ll miss this one. On a related point Heresy Miniatures and Crooked Dice do much better who-ish figures for me.
aye, unfortunatly this has pretty much killed those companies releasing any more NOT doctor who minis
Sorry, much prefer the Harlequin, now Black Tree produced minis
I do to but for all the new who I’ll just have to get some
they look good but the Dr look like an agent from the Matrix?
Clara Oswald should be a female figure in a red dress. She wore a red dress in the episode where she was a dalek when Matt Smith first met her. She wore a red dress in the episode with Robin Hood, and she wore a red dress in the 50th Anniversary. That would be the best way to sculpt her, PLUS she has a great smile. Make the figure smile brightly! The current picture above makes her look like she has osteoporosis…hunched forward. It doesn’t show her in a playable light. She should be much more “Vibrant.”
I am not a fan of Doctor who save Tom Baker when I used to watch Dr Who on PBS. However, my non-war gaming friend who I manage to get in a couple games (mostly Bolt Action) a month with is a very big fan. So I would like to pick up this game for him as I hope it would be the best compromise of gaming to Dr Who possible. I have to echo the sentiment that these miniatures could have been sculpted better. This leaves me a little torn on entering the game. On the one hand, as… Read more »
I don’t much like these sculpts either. However, this does remind me that I wanted to consider house rules for other war games along the lines of “roll a D20 at the start of each turn, and on a 1, The Doctor arrives and everyone else loses.”
Doctor as a bard? I get that the guitar was unique to the character, but as the miniature representation of the character in a war game? I’d much prefer the pose he took in the promo posters where he was emulating Jon Pertwee. Clara just looks… bored. Static poses aren’t great for an action oriented game.
