The Suicide Squad Makes Their First Appearance

The cast of Suicide Squad, the upcoming DC film about a team of super-villains co-opted by the US government, have made their first appearance together in full costume.
Suicide Squad is perhaps the DC film I am most excited about, bringing in some of my favourite villains such as Captain Boomerang and Killer Croc.
These costumes are certainly interesting and match with the grim and gritty approach the DC movies are going for. Having said that, it took me a while to figure out who most of these guys are (still can't guess the one on the far right), while Killer Croc (second on right) looks a little goofy compared to the more realistic characters.
There has been some speculation about why The Joker is not in the line up, but I think this is because he isn't part of the Squad itself. More likely, he will be the main antagonist the team have to contend with, as was done in the animated Assault on Arkham.
I am rather nervous about this movie. I was not taken by Man of Steel and am not hopeful for Batman vs Superman. The Suicide Squad though has a fun and diverse line up, including villains like Slipknot that most non-comic readers will have come across. If anything is interesting enough to liven up this cinematic universe, it is this team.

Over all the line up does not look bad at all.
From left, the lineup shows Adam Beach as Slipknot, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Karen Fukuhara down in front as Katana, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Will Smith as Deadshot, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc and Jay Hernandez as El Diablo.

I thought Deathstroke was making an appearance?
I think Deathstroke is in the film but not part of the squad
But is it the Arrow version of Deathstroke or someone different.

I’ve never been much into comics but…with names like Captain boomerang and killer croc I’m amazed anyone would look forward to the movie. The names sound more like a porn movie line up than a real movie.
Even if you don’t read comic books you should know those villains. Captain Boomerang was in Arrow and he is The Flash’s villain while Killer Croc was regular villain in that awesome 90’s Batman cartoon.

Contrary to what you seem to think most people outside of the comic book and super hero/villain circle don’t give a hoot about that stuff. I’ve always had zero interest in comic books and super heroes/villains so it’s totally legit for me to know nothing about them and to rip their silly names =)

Wow, did they ever prove me wrong there. I’m an old marvel fan too, so I knew what to expect, I just didn’t think they could pull it off in a movie.

Is it wrong that I hope Deadshot dies first? Sorry Smith, but you’ll just steal every scene you’re in and this movie will do better without that.
Over all they done F@*K it up…how can you not have King shark and do a Goofy ass Killer Croc…King Shark would have been Easy to include….A big bruser (i dunno pick a wrestler) with a Mohawk and a Custom Grill with Sharks teeth or even a Trap jaw like in Assault on Arkam. And whats with Harley ?…Is this Jokers Gal pal or Lollypop Chainsaw???

A sea of grey and bland, with a few standouts.
The “constume” they have chosen for Harley Quinn I dislike intensely.
Looks good, although i hate DC’s decision to ignore everything they have done in arrow, as that incarnation of the suicide squad is without a shadow of doubt my favorite and i fail to see the point of the inevitably rushed orgins story for the squad that the film will receive when you have had at least 6 hours (and 12 if you include the bad guys of the week episodes before they get co-opted into the squad) of character development on TV!
I’m with you in being very disappointed that they have not embraced the Suicide Squad from Arrow. Hell, Tatsu (Rila Fukushima) even finally donned the Katana costume they are using in the photos in last week’s episode!!! Arrow and the Flash have built an incredibly cohesive and highly entertaining video adaption of the west coast DC universe so why not go with the actors that have made those roles their own in the series? I can understand the necessity of an A-list drawcard, but Will smith could handle most of the characters that we’ve not seen in the series yet.… Read more »
Y’know what dc had going for then on the way into this? Recognisable characters. Show 90% of people a big blue guy with an S on his chest, or a jaded cynic with rodent ears and they’ll know who that is. So at first glance here we have ???, ???, Katana, Anthropomorphised luna from sailor moon, a guy with a gun, perky goth, Will smith, a battletoad and weird tattoo guy. Killer Croc makes me think of Theodore Rex… That’s just sad.
Overall, not impressed. They should have left Boomerang out… And you’re right about “recognizeable characters”.
I mean… there’s like three or four guys all in army surplus with names I’ve never heard of in there (and i’m a decent DC fan) and I know I won’t be able to tell which is which. Two japanese style girls is one too many… and tattoo boy and dinosaur boy will just be competing for “physical freak boy”. Loose the dead wood, DC…
on first impressions, Deadshot looks fairly decent, but I don’t like the full mask though, Harely Quinn looks good in the context of the movie … but I wanted her to look more like Harley Quinn 😛 Rick Flag looks like a guy wearing army surplus .. no surprises Killer Croc looks great to me 🙂 … but verging on that old Mario movie from the 90’s 😛 Captain Boomerang looks a lot better than I expected … a bit dirty 70’s pimpish 😛 El Diablo seems to be the pyro powered version … about to go bowling in the… Read more »
Enchantress is on the leash, not Katana.
There just seems to be a lack of colour; I don’t really know why DC are going on this route of everything just being so dark and rather grim . I’m not tremendously familiar with the lore of this franchise, but Harley (whose costume I am disappointed in) is the only one I’d recognise on sight, although with regards to the other characters , I’m only really aware of Killer Croc via the animated series from the 90’s (and thus I think he looks small in this iteration). IMO, DC is going grimdark because their only big movie successes since 1990 have been grimdark, Suits in charge, suits stick to what has worked in the past,
Look what happened with Green Lantern in all its colorfulness. I’ll bet that scared the suits more than anything else.
Green lantern movie failed because it was bad movie, not because it was not grimdark. Too bad that suits in charge fail to see that and think that it was because it was not grimdark.
Well, Croc looks like Croc (not the weird modern one). Other than that, it looks like maybe a commando guy rounded up a bunch of hobos.
