The Rock Undertakes The Labours Of Hercules On Screen
May 7, 2014 by brennon
I'm a firm believer of the internet saying that putting Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) into any movie makes it ten times better and saves it. Looking to do the same with Greek Myth he is taking to the screen as Hercules in July!
Above is one of the new shots from the film that will be based on the Radical Comics iteration by Steve Moore. It looks like it's going to blow the other Hercules film that came out earlier this year out of the water and has plenty of fun silly action in it.
I'm sure it's not going to be a rip roaring success but sometimes you just want a bit of adventurous fun and this looks like it could hit the nail on the head, with a big club.
See what you think!
I expect my kids will want me to take them to this after we have seen the new Godzilla movie. The truth is I enjoy monster movies as much as they do.
How was the new Godzilla? I own 25+ Godzilla movies, been a fan since I was 5, I’m half afraid the new Godzilla will prove to be my own personal “Phantom Menace.” Then again, we may have already suffered that blow courtesy of Matthew Broderick. 🙁
25+ Godzilla movies, wow, what’s your favourite? I bet it’s not the Matthew Broderick one. The new Godzilla movie is not out in the UK until 16th. May. My kids have persuaded me to take them to the 3D version, unfortunately for me its 123 minutes long, which is guaranteed to give me a headache.
Wow, which is my favorite? I don’t think anyone’s asked me that before, they’re all so equally, deliciously horrendous! 🙂 I guess the default answer would be the first one, except the Americans ruined it when they shoehorned in their Raymond Burr character (always on the lookout for an original Japanese version). Return of Godzilla (1984) is an old favorite because it was the first one to come out in my movie-going “lifetime,” Godzilla Millennium (2000) is good because it came out right after the 1998 Matthew Broderick version (rumors are that Toho Studios came out with that one specifically… Read more »
Oh, lord. My girlfriend’s gonna demand we watch this. She’s been a huge (ahem) “fan” of the Rock since his WWF/WWE days. She actually met his former wife once (we live in South Florida). She doesn’t prefer him with the beard, though (she was not a fan of him in Fast & Furious 5), so I might be safe … 🙂
I see that fluffy is in it as well look quit good.
I’ve never made it through one of Johnson’s movies. Could this be the first???
At least this version seems to have the trials unlike that other version that looks like junk. We can only hope for a close match to the story.
From the synopsis on IMDB it seems to be set after the labours. It also claims he lived fourteen hundred years ago :s. My only personal “at least” would be someone, anyone, calling him by his proper name rather than the latinised version.
Hey Herc! The Spartans want their title font back!
God of War movie OTOH could be good. Ok, maybe this is pretty much the same thing…
IF YOU SMELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What the ROCK is cookin!
Finally …
… the Rock … HAS COME BACK …
… to Athens!
The Rock’s main enemy for this movie has finally been revealed:

I hope it’s as dark as the actual stories where he goes nuts and kills his wife and kids but I doubt it, it’s Hollywood…
Also he has to do a rock bottom finisher on someone haha.
THANK YOU!!!! @manicray I hope so too, but i doubt it. I am so tired of sex and violence (not complaining here) Hollywood sanitizing the God/Demigod myths. It makes no sense, I mean NO ONE did sex and violence like the Greeks. I guess they’re trying to broaden the viewing audience for the film. Though if they want a broad audience, they might try picking a different myth once and awhile. What is this Hercules #9?
Oedipus would be a good start, and could easily be turned into a grand, and steamy, Hollywood epic.
Not sure why they need to remake a Hercules film while the Steve Reeve classics are still available
Kevin Sorbo certainly looks different these days.
Man, why don’t they remake Xena while they’re at it? Come on, ole’ Lucy could still pull it off! At least it would be fun to watch.
