From Dracula To Saruman – Sir Christopher Lee Dies Aged 93
June 11, 2015 by brennon
The amazing actor Sir Christopher Lee has died at the age of 93. Being well known for his Hammer Horror and massive screen roles that include the likes of Dracula, Scaramanga, Count Dooku in Star Wars and (my favourite) Saruman in Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit he was, and still is, a national treasure...
While there is certainly a lot of sadness at his passing he had led a very full life and bought hours of joy to all who watched him. Being knighted for his services in 2009 and gaining a BAFTA Fellowship in 2011 are just some of the accolades he richly deserved.
He even tried his hand at a bit of music with some rather operatic sounding metal albums under his name. You can see one of them above!
Interestingly he also served in the Special Forces during World War II as well as his work in the RAF and more.
What is your favourite Christopher Lee movie?

Very sad, but he had an amazingly long life and left us with a metric tonne of awesome memories.
Cheers Sir Christopher.
RIP one of the true legends of the cinema. His stage presence was awesome, and his is the only auto-biography I have read what a life. Not sure one film is enough to remember him by
He was an amazing man. Every evil wizard in my RP games is played by Christopher Lee. RIP
Such a legend RIP 🙁
today will be spent in a world of Lee’s films, tv and music while I get drunk and hobby. Amazing man who kept working right to the end.
There will never be another like him. RIP.
To Christopher Lee, one of the greatest actors of all time.
He will be missed.
I slaute you Ser Lee! My angels sing the to thy rest!
You were a role model for me.
RIP Sir
It’s impossible to pick a highlight from such a long and varied career. Christopher Lee lit up the screen and made any film instantly better just by virtue of him being in it. I’ll just mention, because it hasn’t been mentioned already, that he was fantastic as the evil Rochefort in the 1970’s Musketeer movies: definitely the best version of the Three Musketeers to date.
Seconded amongst my favourite of the films of the 70’s such a great speaking voice.
sad news to hear 🙁
it’s amazing to think how many iconic characters he’s played over the years,
and at least we can still have those movies to remember him by 🙂
RIP
Rest in peace, mate.
Hope I’ll still be swinging staves and lightsabers when I’m in my 90s.
Rip.
Very few ever had a presence like him and sadly there seem to be less and less each year. He lead a long and interesting life and you can’t ask for much more than that. What a legend, RIP.
RIP.
RIP
Sleep well metal god!! \m/
He knew Ian Fleming during the war and was part of the inspiration for the James Bond character (along with several other British agents Fleming worked with). Much later, when filming the death of Saruman for the LotR trilogy, he was able to correct Peter Jackson as to how a man who has been stabbed from behind sounds and acts from his “personal experience”. He never dwelled on his war record (as with most of his generation), I suspect there are many stories gone untold. Possibly the last great Tolkien scholar who had met with Tolkien himself. Lord Summerisle is… Read more »
Don’t forget Gormenghast!
Another great performance. He will be sorely missed.
Film – Either The Fellowship of the Ring or The Two Towers. He was a truly magnificent Saruman.
RIP
So sad. He was my Dracula and forever will be. RIP
Rip Sir Christopher Lee… Hollywood villains just won’t be the same again…
“Only the good die young”
I call shenanigans. Sir Christopher Lee was an English Gentleman of the highest order and 93 is a bloody good innings, we should all be so fortunate.
R.I.P. SIR.
