Conan RPG Coming From Modiphius August 2015!
February 9, 2015 by brennon
Modiphius aren't done with the snapping up of intellectual properties and production of role-playing games. Next on the list is the mighty Conan which you might have noticed is experiencing quite a resurgence right now. If you fancied playing as a barbarian, a stygian, or something else entirely in the world of Hyborea then Adventures In An Age Undreamed Of is coming later this year...
This new adventure into the lands of Conan is being done by quite the team that includes the likes of Timothy Brown (designer of the Dark Sun setting for Dungeons & Dragons), award-winning Robert E. Howard scholar and essayist Jeffrey Shanks (Conan Meets the Academy, REH: Two-Gun Raconteur, Critical Insights: Pulp Fiction, The Dark Man: The Journal of REH Studies, Zombies from the Pulps!), Jason Durall (Basic Roleplaying, Serenity, The Laundry), Chris Lites (Paizo, Savage Worlds, Omni, Slate), and many more besides. That's quite a cast list and all focused towards Howards vision of Conan rather than anything you might have seen on screen, in comics, or video games.
The game will use the 2D20 system that has been used for Mutant Chronicles but tweaked to give it that feeling of sword & sorcery of course. As well as the system it will also be developed alongside Monolith and their Conan board game, Funcom with their MMORPG and the folks behind the Conan license itself delivering a combined experience.
What does that combined effort mean? It means that you'll see some crossover between the two games. Miniatures from the Conan board game will appear for use in the RPG and in turn Modiphius will supply scenarios to play out in the game as well as gaming tiles to fight on with said miniatures.
Previously the Conan RPG was by Mongoose Publishing but it's pretty hard to get hold of so it's a welcome change to see it coming back through another company. There will be a Kickstarter over the Summer to fund some of the additional components of the game, much like with other Modiphius products.
Pretty big news!

I love modiphius products i just wish they would get the ones kickstarted all done before promoting all the new games
I understand Chris has to keep the company going with new products and i would welcome them for Achtung Cthulhu but i am waiting for Mutant Chronicles
Don’t worry it’s a separate team of writers and artists and they’re just starting work so it does’t interfere with Mutant Chronicles or Achtung! Cthulhu – speaking of which I have another PDF of the core book to share shortly!
Very nice! Turning out to be a great year for Conan fans! =D
I own a D20 Conan and its GM screen… Excellent for inspiration ! Magic, ad its inherent creepiness and relationship with obsession in Howard’s universe (which is none other than the Lovecraftian distant past) is exceedingly well managed.
I have the d20 Conan books (second edition, shown above) and I never found anyone to play with.
Just like the Dragon Age RPG, I can never find fans of the things I am interested in that want to play a tabletop game with me. =/
That’s my problem too – as well as people being obsessed with board games at the moment so they dont want to do RPGs heh
BoW Ben
Everyone I know is obsessed with video games and can’t be bothered to disconnect for a few hours…
But yeah, I totally feel you, there. I guess I’m just in the wrong area for this kind of stuff. Doesn’t stop me from throwing money at it, though! lol
Lots of amazing RPGs coming from @modiphius ! Now to find time to play them all!
I am really looking forward to this! I love Conan!
Finally on Kickstarter!
