WW2 Starter Set for Wings of Glory
November 30, 2011 by dracs
Good news to all fans of aerial combat, the WW2 starter set for Wings of Glory from Ares Games is now available!
This set will include all the markers and rules you need to get straight into gaming, as well as four different planes of different nationalities. A P-40 Warhawk, a Yakovlev Yak-1, a Kawasaky Ki-61 and a Reggiane Re.2001.
As a big fan of the old Wings of War game I am really looking forward to getting my hands on this and seeing how it holds up. Although personally I prefer playing WW1 aerial combats as I can declare myself to be Biggles.
What about you guys? Will any of you be taking to the skies?

Bit confused by the choice of aircraft
The P-40 looks a bit odd and would possibly have gone head to head with the Reggiane
But the other two are from completely different theatres

I think they’ve been chosen for roughly comparable characteristics rather than historical accuracy, what I don’t like is how a WW2 dogfight box is missing the spitfire and Bf109 🙁
Ah right I can see that would be fair enough
Fw190’s and Stringbags would be a tad one sided!
(as per the Channel Dash!)
Also thought the Spit and Bf109 would feature.
Hopefully they’re saving them to do a Battle of Britain box later.
I can see flying the p-40 against the Hien, The markings are wrong, but RAAF P-40s and Ki-61s were flown over New Guinea. The Yak does seem to be the odd bird out in this case. I suppose you could duel it against the re.2001. The Italians sent somewhere around 60,000 men to the Eastern Front, though I don’t know off of the top of my head if they had their own air support and what, if anything it was comprised of. The original WWII starter set had better match ups though. Me109 vs Spitfire and Wildcat vs Zero are… Read more »
Good call
Can’t see any reference to the Reggiane being deployed on the Eastern Front
Seems to have been mainly Macchi’s and Caprioni Ca31 bombers but my search was not extensive
so is this wings of war with a different company making it or a different game altogether?
There no fully transparent plastic for the bases or are they too damn expensive ?
Glad to see this still moving forward, slightly odd mix of planes again but not to bad I guess
Its good to see that they expand WoG to WW2.
looks interesting but i would like to field whole squadrons of planes in a game rather than just 1.
The complete lack of Spitfire or Hawker Hurricane from a WW2 starter set seems more than somewhat remiss. I suppose a BoB set may follow, but then why not make THAT the starter set?
Hello,
@ blackbrunswicker: P40 marking is good. It’s a French one from the Lafayette Escadrille that fought in North Africa.
I meant that the markings were off for Southwest Pacific battles against the Ki-61, not that the markings aren’t correct at all. Sorry if I was confusing.
It`s not Yak-1, it`s Yak-3.
