Doing something slightly different this weekend oriskany is putting together a bit of an online role-playing game set during the modern day where you play as Commanders of a Tank Platoon. It might sound odd but it could be a lot of fun!

The background for this particular 'adventure' is above, giving you an idea of just what the situation is. You can then pick from a number of options...

...and see if you can get this convoy from Stirling to Aberdeen. Will you be able to succeed?

Here's oriskany explaining a bit more about it to get you in the mood...

“Battlegroup Oriskany” is a rag-tag collection of former, die-hard NATO soldiers from any country you’d like to be from. Pick your own country if you want. The setting is designed where it really doesn’t matter. We are all on the same side, we are all part of Battlegroup Oriskany.

To join the battle group (and the game), just pick one of the available units from the sheet. You are now the “commander” of that tank, platoon, or section. Together, we will all embark on an adventure across the desolated, post-apocalyptic remains of 2017, post-World War III Scotland.

Our overall mission is to get from Stirling to Aberdeen, where rumour has it there are actually surviving transport ships that can take us home.

Of course, former Soviet forces, marauders, mercenaries, or former NATO troops that have gone rogue may get in our way. Other obstacles like disease, radiation, refugees, or supply problems may also get in our way.

Can you lead your unit through the adversity for this final chance to get home? Can we all work together as a team to get the battlegroup as a whole to Aberdeen?

Basically, if you’ve ever played a “D&D” style RPG, you know what this is about. Except instead of playing one warrior or wizard, you’re leading a unit of 4-20 men, and the “dragons” are probably Soviet T-80s.

You can find out more about what he's doing over on the thread HERE and dive in and give it a go yourself. As an extension of the usual capers we get up to on the weekend this could be a lot of fun as you role-play out the scenarios and see how it all ends up.

It would make for quite the fun story at the end and something to look back on so if you're interested, go and see how it's coming along. There are even some awards on offer for those who take part in the goings on this weekend...

Online RPG type games via forums are usually a lot of fun and this certainly puts us in an interesting period of alternative history!

Will you be giving this one a go?
