Warlord Games Preview New Cruel Seas Art & Models
October 9, 2018 by brennon
Warlord Games has been showing off more on Cruel Seas this week! The first big preview was for the Starter Set and its Cover Art which looks very action-packed indeed.
The set will go up for pre-order on November 2nd and then become available December 8th for general release. It's smaller scale than I had originally assumed featuring these nippier vessels as you'll see here rather than massive ships.
Warlord Games also took a sneak peek look at some of the plastic boats that will come as part of the set and they are rather swanky indeed!
I'm sure larger boats are going to be making an appearance in due course and if you take a peek at their Facebook Group for the game you'll notice that they've been working on all manner of interesting ideas include U-Boats and more.
Are you going to be jumping in on Cruel Seas when it pops up?

I was wondering what they’re up to when I saw one of their employees pop a resin boat out of a mold in a video. Interesting.
Looks interesting. Nice detail on the ships. What scale is it?
The Facebook page says 1/300th. Presumably a conscious decision to avoid people using 3rd party models in the popular 1/350th scale which is pretty lame of Warlord (though I suspect mixing in a 1:350th scale DD with these torpedo boats would look fine).
I am not sure it was to stop people using other scale boats, as with BRS they deliberately chose 1/200 because that was a popular scale for aircraft.
The ships are 1/300 scale, but i wonder what scale the included aircraft are. Hopefully they’re 1/200 so they are compatible with Blood Red Skies. Anyone know?
Nice! Between Oak and Iron and this, looks like Naval warfare is getting some love.
Welp, cheers for this because I wasn’t even aware of Oak and Iron :O
Agreed. It’s nice to see genres of wargaming that were/are very rare in a format that looks like fun for entry level gamers.
I definitely will give this a try ??
Cruel Seas Bootcamp?
Or maybe just that painting competition mentioned (off the cuff) a couple of weeks ago?
Either way….I am in!
Fabulous looking boat models.
looking forward to this, can’t wait to see the bigger ships!
It will be interesting o see how the rules for his works as most MTB Vs E boat engagements were at night
It’s Warlord so I’m expecting a hefty dose of gameplay-before-simulation, but things like to-hit bonuses once a ship is burning should be pretty easy to incorporate.
We know from the demo game pictures that they’re tracking speed with wake-templates, so I wonder if higher speeds might also incur to-hit bonuses or be visible at greater ranges.
Would love to play those boats with bravo2 roles. sadly bravo2 still not out :S
Really looking forward to this. If this becomes a bootcamp please reserve me a place….
Interested in this, but I would be more attracted to larger ships, that could be my ignorance of history around this type of clash. May need to explore and see what history I can find.
Well this is interesting. Also those ships do look good.
I’ve ordered the Starter Set and can’t wait to get started. Personally, I wont be investing in any ‘big ships’ if they do appear, apart from a tanker maybe, so there is something to launch torpedoes at. It would be nice if this Warlord offering didn’t go down the same route as Bolt Action, where the infantry squads the game was originally built around are in danger of being swamped by bigger and bigger tanks.
