Wargames Atlantic Announce WWI British Infantry Plastic Set
August 18, 2021 by brennon
Wargames Atlantic has announced a new 28mm plastic set for those venturing into a bit of World War I wargaming. As someone who has always been tempted by the period and playing as the British, this new set of British Infantry 1916-18 has got me scratching my chin and thinking.
British Infantry 1916-1918 // Wargames Atlantic
There are already a lot of options as you can see. A myriad of different heads including options for soldiers from across The Empire. You've also got a mass of rifles and special weapons and all of the kit that these soldiers would have carried into battle.
More arms and bodies are on the way to suit this set but I am already pretty much sold on this plastic set. I think it is going to be a great way for people to start building a World War I force to use on the tabletop in games like Blood & Valor.
As many folks have no doubt already mentioned, this set would also be neat for those wanting to do something pulpy. Give all your soldiers gasmasks and cover them in vegetation and you've got a great Turnip 28 force. Give them Sci-Fi rifles and they'd be perfect for a jaunt into the grimdark.
I am very eager to see this set release as I reckon I'm going to do a little experiment in painting and hobbying World War I!
"Give all your soldiers gasmasks and cover them in vegetation and you've got a great Turnip 28 force..."
Laurance Fox take note 🙂
These look great. I’m looking forward to the recent french WW1/WW2 boxed set. I’m going to convert some bolt action for the indo china war. Reading Martin Windrows fantastic book The Last Valley all about the indo china war. Highly recommend ?
This rounds out the core of their WWI range very nicely. A fantastic way for people to get into the period.
Now time for a cunning plan….
Apart from Russians, Austro Hungarians, Ottomans and Serbian as well as Anzacs and the US
Indeed, covers the big three, but as you pointed out I’d love to see everyone else included eventually too. Could these possibly work as Anzacs in the peaked cap? I’m not sure of the uniform differences?
Let’s not forget the Italians, or the whole conflict in Africa.
ANZACS and the US wore different tunics and the US woukd need French MG’s and various bit and bobs of French equipment
Yes remiss of me to forget about the Italians
That’s a lot of heads!
A fabulous looking set of figures an variety of parts to make the squad to add to your forces.
These look great, perfect for Very British Civil War too but do I see deerstalkers under the turbans?
I wondered how long it would take to get VBCW mention!
Seconds for me and Deerstalkers too
They’re very tempting because the gas mask cases are optional (gas mask cases being the reason I didn’t pick up any BEF for my VBCW project).
Now where did I put my brown paint?
They would make wonderful BEF, militia forces, and regulars. If you have the German box the helmet head on they and you have Irish interwar regulars too
They’re going on the list (along with the partizans box and probably a new KR case for them too).
Not forgetting the world of Kaiserreich – would love to convert some some stuff for that, the Anarcho-Syndicalist forces of the Union of Britain, the Canadians and Royalists, top stuff!
That’s a new one to me. Having a read now
It began as a mod for Hearts of Iron IV nigh on a decade ago but it’s really padded out, some great fan artwork, even a couple of books. Based on the premise that Germany wins WW1 having refused to resume unrestricted submarine warfare. The Americans no longer have cause to join and Imperial Germany is able to outlast France. The Russian Revolution gets crushed but France and Britain fall to civil war and the rise of new Anarcho-Syndicalist regimes after the trade unions fill the gap left by the collapsed governments. Good stuff!
Sounds intriguing. And my 30s socialist mill workers would fit nicely.
I am intrigued too as I thought I had forgotten about a faction for VBCW lol
I was thinking I don’t need any more ww1 Brits but then I saw the Indian heads
I’m disappointed there’s no option for kilts but it would really require a separate set. Ah well.
