The Plastic Soldier Company are now taking pre-orders for the Deluxe Hardback Limited Edition of their new Vietnam War ruleset, Nam '68: Tour Of Duty. The book will go print on demand but this is your chance to get the nice hardback version.

Nam 68 - The Plastic Soldier Company

Nam '68: Tour Of Duty // The Plastic Soldier Company

Nam '68: Tour Of Duty has you taking command of a US platoon during a year fighting against the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War. The rules cover skirmishes with between ten and forty troops per side and include information on your regular grunts through to platoon support weapons and the calling in of mortars, artillery and attacks from helicopter gunships.

The rules look to be bringing in all of the aspects you'd expect when it comes to a Vietnam War game including booby-trap detonation and dealing with ambushes, hunting down fugitives, clearing hot LZ and defending against Viet Cong night attacks on US bases.

There are detailed platoon creation rules for the US alongside the supporting fire options all using a point-free system and vehicle rules covering the likes of the M113 APC, M48 Patton tank and the iconic Huey.

Each of the scenarios in the book can be played at variable game sizes, so you can start off small with a handful of soldiers and then expand as your collection grows. There are also variable threat levels for you to contend with when it comes to Viet Cong activity and you'll need to deal with civilians on the battlefield plus sub-plots like finding downed pilots or fending off unexpected Viet Cong attackers.

The "Tour Of Duty" element of the game comes in as part of a campaign system where you play out twelve months in the thick of the action. You will command your own platoon and get to dive into all of the storytelling opportunities that that offers you. I like the sound of this and it feels like Nam '68 could be a great go-to for someone wanting to get started in the Vietnam War period on the tabletop.

Could you be tempted to snap up Nam '68?
