Team Yankee Unboxing: Hussain’s Republican Guard
April 11, 2019 by johnlyons
Justin and John explore Iraq's Presidential Guard box set for Team Yankee from Battlefront Miniatures.
Comprising three of John's favourite tank, the T-72 (well he does love building them), and two Gazelle attack helicopters, this set will get you started with the Iraq faction.
Will you be getting to these choppas?

Saddam invaded Kuwait in August of 1990
August 2, 1990. I remember it well. 😐
Get to da choppa?
Na, I’m good. I’m getting my tank fix too…. soon’ish
“pass the gazelle” said lion A to Lyon B
I don’t remember seeing Gazelles in my youth. Wessex and Chinooks are the ones I remember seeing most.
We had them all day long when we lived close to Thiepval Barracks
Its weird, I’ve not doubt they flew over my head, and the Gazelle is what attracted me most to this box, but I just don’t remember them.
like the play on history
Friend shared this with me from the TY forum which I thought was funny
“If I a make a wall of M-113 without gap and place my infantry behind this wall, the enemy can the shoot through this wall? Does my M-113 block the Los? Please detail answers. THX for the replies in advance .”
Curious about the spelling of “Hussain” on the box. I’m wondering if this was intentional, “alternate history” – or some kind of “political distancing from reality” thing … “some names have been changed to protect the not-so-innocent?” Gazelles were big in Syria as well, as seen in Lebanon ’82. T-72s in Iraq to my knowledge were strictly with the Republican Guards Divisions. Six divisions in all, two armored (Hammurabi / Medina), two mechanized (Tawakalna / Baghdad), two motorized (I believe). I BELIEVE the tank divisions had two regiments / brigades of armor, one of BMP-1s, the mechanized divisions reversed this.… Read more »
I think I would go along the NATO route.
Or ally them with a Jordanian Expeditionary Force with a few Brit tanks Centurions or maybe a Chieftain or two.
We get T72, Gazelles (Irish Air Corps basic trainer in its day) but what about
Big Unusual Shit that’s Hidden.
Technically Gazelles are French not British, we just built them under licence 😉
Shouldn’t it just be just Saddam’s Republican Guard
love the box and love the shape of the gazelle.
I’d like to see some Iraqi BMPs.
I really should dig out my FoW and give it a go
