Spectre Get You Into Modern Warfare With New Starter Set
January 10, 2020 by brennon
Spectre Miniatures has been showing off a limited run Starter Set which is here to get you stuck into their world of Modern Warfare on the tabletop.
The set contains a selection of seven Task Force Operators who are going up against an equally elite force of seven GRU Spetsnaz soldiers. You also get yourself the up-to-date 2nd Edition Rulebook which allows you to dive into the game and start playing with a friend.
Both of these squads carry the Elite profile that we mentioned before but have their own unique mix of weapons and gear which make them interesting to play games with. This should allow you to get to grips with the rules easily whilst also learning about how all the different equipment works.
I still think that Spectre is perfect for those wanting to play more old school Games Master experiences on the tabletop. I love the idea that whilst two players go toe-to-toe, there is someone else watching over the encounter and seeking to throw spanners in the works for both teams as they hunt each other...and possibly a more dangerous foe.
What do you think of the Starter Set offer?

I had a closer look at Spectre’s site recently and a lot of stuff was out of stock. Do any experienced Spectre heads know if these things tend to become available again or is it once they’ve gone they’ve really gone?
Should come in stock again but does normally take a while!
That’s great to hear. And kudos to Spectre for being upfront about it. Not everyone does that.
Spectre is only a small team (3 people) and they restock as regularly as possible. They have just moved the production of the vehicles out to allow for faster restock of them. One of the best places for spectre is the Facebook group as the community is excellent.
Yeah that’s always the thing. Barring a very few we’re dealing with small industries. Always make allowances. I’ll definitely take a second look.
This game has always been on my radar since their first KS.
Anyone know about a good tutorial/ play through video link?

Could this please be delayed until next year ?
I wanted to keep my promise of not buying a new system.
And now this happens and I’m tempted …
btw: are these single piece metal minis ?
They’re one piece cast as far as I know apart from those that come with night vision goggles which are separate.
Single cast minis with the NVGs separate, I have a project with some Russians I painted if you want to see them.
Those shields don’t look like they’d be part of the mini.
oh … and I can’t look at them on order of my wallet.
but with Brexit being close I may have to ignore that order.
Technically, this system is from last year. So your not breaking your promise, ” of not buying a new system.” Cause it’s a year old now! ??
Problem solved! Your welcome. ?
All kidding aside, it’s a great system. We now play modern warfare games as often as we play historical games. The Spectre system is too notch.
Sst.. I’m trying. You’re not helping.
The figures look fantastic and would be great on any table as special/elite unit’s
Pretty cool!
Sold out from what I can see sadly.
yep, althoug that’s only the starter set.
the rulebook is available and it’s not like you have to use those minis.
They were available when this article was first published though.
So I guess the system is popular 🙂
Oh well … it’s not as if I needed one more system in my life 😉
They do very nice models and lovely to paint. Have a few for using with the black ops rules.
I agree! I have quite a few minis from Spectre and both the figures and vehicles are too notch. I have to come across any that make me pause and say, “well that could have been better”. I have enough of their vehicles to fill a car lot on a game table. ‘G’ & Jim ( @stvitusdancern @oriskany)have convinced me that all the ‘bad guys’ have an endless supply of technical vehicles, aka Toyota pickups with recoilless rifles and quad mounted 50 Cal’s. Of course you have to grab some SUV’s for your Mercs or Warlords to cruise around in… Read more »
