One of the far away "wars" I heard and read about in old mercenary magazines was Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). It seemed so mysterious and far away, growing up in the Midwest United States in the 1970s. Now you can rehash those events with some new releases from Eureka Miniatures and their Bush Wars series.

The first item is the 13 man RAR (Rhodesian African Rifles). It can be sub-divided into 3 sticks of 4 men with an European adviser. My understanding that there were a lot of soldiers of fortune involved at this time.

The second set is a couple of helicopters that are iconic for this time period, the Alouette K-Car and G-Car. K-Car was the weapons platform aircraft and the G-Car was the transport for the "Fireforce" rapid reaction force for the Rhodesian Government troops. The kits include weapons and crews for  depending on the configuration. To  round out  the vehicles in this release is a 4x4 technical.

How do you find the enemy to send in the "Fireforce" teams? Well, scouts of course with some interestingly sculpted miniatures of the Rhodesian Grey Scouts. There is even one of a scout on horseback attempting to fire what looks like a FN FAL, not an easy task at all.

Last, but certainly no least there some new rebel factions equipped older equipment before the surge of Communist weapons and equipment enter the country and found its way into the ZANLA and ZIPRA forces, items such as SKS rifles and burp guns.

This is definitely another interesting time period many may not know of or even played out on a tabletop. This era deserves some attention as well, as there were ideals being fought for and protected.

Have you heard of the Bush War?
