Warlord Games are taking pre-orders this weekend for the new third edition of Bolt Action. The new Rulebook alongside the brand new Starter Set, Battle Of The Bulge, are available for you to snap up ahead of its 26th September 2024 launch for the most well-known World War II wargame.

Leading the way is the new Battle Of The Bulge Starter Set which takes place amongst the brutal mud and snow of 1944 and the Ardennes Offensive. This was the last desperate push of the Germans to try and shove the Allies out of Europe which led to bitter fighting between both forces.
With this in mind, the Starter Set for Battle Of The Bulge features brand new 28mm plastic miniatures for both the US and the Germans. Both come clad in their heavy coats with a good mix of iconic weaponry. On the one side, you have the brown-coated US Infantry, digging into their foxholes and watching for the German offensive.

On the other side of the clash, you have the Germans and their Elite Fallschirmjäger. Both forces look like they have wrapped up warm for the conflict ahead which seems apt for the Autumn release of the new starter set and the new edition in general!

As well as both of the new plastic sets, which come with plenty of options to make Command elements, you will also find everything else that you need to get started in Bolt Action.

The Battle Of The Bulge Starter Set will also come with the A5 Softback Rulebook, Order Dice and more.

You will also get an M8 Armoured Car and the classic Ruined Farmhouse that is often found within Bolt Action sets.

Combine this all together and if you've got a great way to get started in the new edition or perhaps explore a new project with a particularly wintery theme.

As well as the new Starter Set, you'll also be able to pre-order the Rulebook for the new edition as well.

Alessio Cavatore earlier in the year answered some of the most burning questions surrounding the new edition in an article over on the Warlord Games Blog (don't miss Peter Dennis also talking about the art for the Battle Of The Bulge box).

All of your existing armies are valid (it's a Historical wargame so you'd hope so!) and whilst the core game mechanics have been tweaked and refined, the real changes come in the way that you build your army lists. The same dice activation system is in play and you'll still be making use of the templates and the like that you'll have lying around in your game accessories collection.

All of the Armies Of...books are going to be coming back, released on a regular basis covering more details for a specific nation. You'll be able to make your standard lists for Great Britain, the USA, USSR, Germany and Japan in the main rulebook but additional books will be popping up to give you more unique options and themed forces. Germany will be the first of the Armies Of...books that you'll be able to pick up next year.
More information on the new edition of Bolt Action will be coming out over the next few weeks and months so keep an eye out and let us know what you think of the new Battle Of The Bulge set in particular!

Nice looking starting set with some heavily armed Germans
Another very reasonable starter set for Bolt Action, being a but more asymmetric in composition doesn’t quite feel as beginner friendly or as good value as some of the older sets, I think A Gentleman’s War still has to be the best set they have done.
