Fight The Battle Of Britain With Plastic Soldier Company On Kickstarter
July 13, 2016 by brennon
Plastic Soldier Company are now on Kickstarter looking for funding to get the remake of Battle of Britain, a classic by Richard Borg, onto the tabletop.
This classic has been updated, upgraded and takes all of the mechanics from the old game and applies them to a new and flashy battlefield in the skies.
Dogfighting has been made easier and more fun while all manner of different scenarios are on offer allowing you to play games that might take an hour or two or full campaigns which head into the realm of three to four hours.
Miniatures
As well as the fantastic board and all manner of interesting components helping you with the different phases of the game you'll have some plastic miniatures too like the Spitfire...
...and the HE III.
All of the miniatures will be 1/300th scale and the base game will come with twelve Spitfire fighter models and seven Heinkel 111 bomber models. They also have plans through the fundraising totals to get Hurricanes, Dornier 17s, Junkers 88s, Stukas, Bf 109s, Bf 110s and even Blenheims and Defiants onto the tabletop.
Gameplay
In terms of the Gameplay I actually got to see a big version of this at the UK Games Expo. I was run through the mechanics and it's all a bit of a desperate fight for both sides. The British have to scramble their fighters and make sure they can take on the Germans...
...while said Axis forces have to manage their supplies and fuel so that they can hit their targets and complete missions/bombing runs. It's all a test of management and sometimes misdirection as you try and take out the RAF bases.
You can learn more about the gameplay for Battle of Britain over on their Kickstarter page as they have a bit of a demo for you to check out which runs through the basics. It's a neat watch.
Hopefully we'll see this hit the tabletop soon and we can play out a great big game!
What do you think?

Like the look of this, would need to play it with the Battle of Britain film soundtrack on loop.
My inner 7 year old just got very excited. I’ll definitely pick one of these up!
Very interesting!!!
But no Messerschmitts in the starter box?!?!
The He111s gonna be easy prey for the Spitfires 😉
I wonder if I can use my pre-painted Wings of Glory WWII planes with this?
more to the point there were more Hurricanes in the battle of britain than spitfires, so they should be in the starter game
They were listed as the first stretchgoal.
As a result they’ve got 6 Spitfires and 6 Hurricane models.
Looks interesting.
Had a look at the Kickstarter as interested but not sure on their approach to generate enthusiasm to reach stretch goals etc. Now I fully admit that I’ve been spoiled by other kickstarters such as Conan (fingers crossed its arriving early autumn) that added loads of additional pieces. Drop fleet, Scythe, This War of Mine all did too. However this KS is providing exchange goals rather than additions. I would have thought getting the original no. of Spits and then additional Hurris would’ve been better, and similarly ending up with only a few He. It may be a gameplay thing… Read more »
This review of the original version makes it look like the models merely exist for bluffing purposes as the composition of the flight (sp?) is never shown on the board itself :

The previews for the Conan core book have been excellent IMHO. If the hardcopy is only half as good it’ll be a proper treasure 😀
Yer the models are just window dressing really… counters. You are sending entire squadrons to fight.
Of the Tumbling Dice or Oddzial Ozmy 1/600 stuff might look nice on the board
I wonder if the wife would dress up as a WAAF and push the models around on the table. Probably not 🙂
A little Friday afternoon treat for all our lovely backers! I’ve lowered the next stretch goal to GBP 37,000 to unlock 2 x replacement Dornier 17s and moved and lowered the Ju 88s and Bf 110s above the croupier sticks. So the stretch goal ladder now reads:- GBP 20,000 – Replace 6 (of 12) x Spitfire plastic models with 6 x Hurricane plastic models. the game will now have 6 x Spitfire and 6 x Hurricane models. **UNLOCKED** GBP 25,000 – Aircraft RAF roundel and Luftwaffe cross stick on decals [KICKSTARTER EXCLUSIVE] **UNLOCKED** GBP 30,000 – Replace 1 x Heinkel… Read more »
