The P-40E Tomahawk Soars Into Battle From Warlord Games
August 11, 2017 by brennon
Warlord Games has been showing off one of the new planes that will be popping up in your games of Bolt Action, ready to do a strafing run and send your troops running for cover.
This is a 1:72 scale model for the P-40E Tomahawk which was flown by the Allies during World War II. It was most famous for being the plane of the Flying Tigers who were volunteer Americans fighting in the Chinese Airforce.
While it wasn't the most technically brilliant fighters of the period it nonetheless was able to hold its own against the enemy and the Japanese fighters.
You'll find it to be a great aircraft for taking out ground targets and clearing the way for your own troops.
What do you think of the Tomahawk?
"It was most famous for being the plane of the Flying Tigers who were volunteer Americans fighting in the Chinese Airforce..."
Why aren’t they in 1/48th scale?
A 1/48 scale plane would be pretty huge on a standard tabletop. Even 1/56 would be unwieldy. Typically they use smaller scale planes both for convenience and to simulate the planes being really high above the table so they look small from ground level. It’s the opposite of using small scale ground details when playing aerial battles.
Well, you could have them in 1/48th if you want them. This isn’t a Warlord product but part of a range of prebuilt diecast models by Easy Model, a subsidiary of Trumpeter Models. They have P-40s in 1/48th.
Airfix also do a kit as do a few other manufacturers.
That’s very nice looking plane but it’s so small compared to infantry and tanks.
she looks fabulous.
Yeah, Battlefront does the same thing. Their figs are 1:100, but planes are 1:144. I’ve seen a player use a 1:48 plane, and it’s distracting how huge it is.
