Footsore Miniatures & Games Moderns Land In Europe
July 30, 2020 by avernos
Footsore Miniatures & Games have replaced their lovely Sutton Hoo helmet with a modern version of military face mask as the first packs of their Moderns range arrive from North America and onto the UK site.
Modern British SBS // Footsore Moderns
We featured some of these in an interview with Tim on the Weekender a few weeks ago and if you haven't seen that then it's worth a watch to see where Tim has come from and also the depth of range that will be coming to our shores in the near future. There are five packs available now for modern warfare three combatants and two civilian packs covering a range of possibilities for your games.
The Special Boat Service is the special forces unit of the United Kingdom's Royal Navy. This pack of five figures represent SBS Operators in Syria although they can be used for many other theatres. This pack includes helmeted heads as well as caps giving you the option to swap out depending on your warfighting needs. They are also accompanied by a dog vital for sniffing out IEDs for the elite force.
US Navy Seals // Footsore Moderns
The US Navy SEALs are the US Navy's special operations unit. This pack of ten figures can be used in various theatres as well as used for other Special Operators, in full camouflage gear with a range of poses they are probably the quintessential special forces that come to mind for a lot of people and will find a home in many collections.
Boko Haram // Footsore Moderns
This pack of 11 figures represent fighters from the Islamic State in West Africa, known as Boko Haram. They are equipped with a range of weaponry from AK-47 rifles to a pair of RPG wielders and an infantry support machine gun they have the tools to bring terror to the tabletop.
One thing that strikes me are the poses of the figures. They aren't styled in the standard military poses that we would expect to see with trained fighters, instead we have fighters spraying gunfire above their heads as if over a wall or running from cover to cover. It's certainly evocative of the images we see on the news.
Modern War Correspondants // Footsore Moderns
These War Correspondents are here to cover the action. This set of seven figures were inspired by current and past War Correspondents that cover incidents throughout the world. Perfect for any modern gaming table. They would make a fantastic objective scenario for your modern games or even an impediment to your forces as they get in the way trying to cover the action.
European Civilians // Footsore Moderns
The last pack is a set of European Civilians dressed for harsh weather they're better suited to European conflicts than the Middle East or Africa perhaps, but as refugees, they are still perfect to tell a narrative on your tabletop and with more Moderns coming it won't be long before we see more suitable figures appearing from Footsore to use with them.
It's great to see these finally starting to get a European release and I think they'll add a lot to Footsore's range and will probably even encourage some gamers to give Modern conflicts a try on the tabletop, these initial five packs barely scratch the surface of what Tim has already produced for the SASM range that you can get right now from Footsore North America so this can only go from strength to strength. Hopefully, the releases will maintain a steady pace in Europe to catch up with what the Americans have been able to get for some time now.
Are you going to be picking some of these up?

For the UK audience, they should look at getting sculpts of Kate Adie’s and Martin Bell’s likeness for the war correspondence (not that it probably makes any business sense, but it would be bloody awesome).
This is excellent news. My wallet is poised for the vehicles appearing. Specifically that massive Russian 4wd thingy.
Great to see and the navy seals look grand ?
Fantastic news! The ‘European’ civilians, what with there winter clothes open up some interesting opportunities – refugees being trafficked across the mountains by some nefarious characters, when the government forces arrive to intercept you have to evade both the traffickers and the government forces to get away. God I’m so excited how we can now get this stuff, wallets going to be screaming bloody murder…
nice.
i’ve been eyeing these up for a while, makes my decision easier now
I do like all of those, the SBS are awesome and those boko haram models are perfect. I’ve always fancied getting into Modern games but I’ve not seen anything that I really like yet, definitely keeping an eye on these to see any future releases
